Deputy Governor of Nasarawa, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, has given an assurance that he would ensure the annual sponsorship of table tennis tournament for Media practitioners in state.
Dr. Akabe, made the promised yesterday in Lafia, while presenting prizes to winners of his sponsored table tennis tournament held at the NUJ press center.
The tournament, which is part of activities to mark the 2021 Press Week organized by the Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), is aimed at keeping Journalists physically fit on their daily operational engagements.
The Deputy Governor disclosed that, all the financial requirements would be provided by him annually to the leadership of the NUJ in the state for the successful hosting of the event.
Dr. Akabe enjoined Journalists in the state to make the best use of this opportunity offered to them to always ensure they physical exercise to always keep them alert at all times.
He announced an additional donation of a set of table tennis board to the NUJ, as part of his support to sports development for the Union.
He noted that, there is the great need for a sports hall at the NUJ press center and promised to contribute towards the construction of such a Hall for the purpose of indoor games.
In separate remarks at the opening ceremony, the state council’s Chairman, Mr. Salihu Mohammed-Alkali and Chairman of NUJ Chairman of Press Week Committee, Mr. Mathew Juju commended Dr Akabe for his immense contribution and assistance to the union and promised to reciprocate his kind gesture.
They also thanked members for their large turn out to grace the occasion and urged them to continue with such spirit of dedication till the grand finale of the event, which comes up tomorrow, Thursday.
