There is a strong indication that the Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, in collaboration with the Plateau State Ministry of Health and the Plateau State Primary Health Care Board, would be flagging off the distribution of free Long Lasting Insecticide Nets (LLIN) in the state tomorrow being Monday, the 24th of February, 2020, at JIB premises.
REALITY gathered that the general public has been invited for the Flag-off Ceremony, where the Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, would also serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
You would recall that REALITY had reported that, in its efforts to save more lives and eliminate Malaria in Plateau State, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, had approved the state’s counter-part fund, aimed at fighting Malaria scourge in the state.
Also, in its efforts to eliminate Malaria, the Plateau State Government, led by Governor Lalong, with support from the United State Government, through the U.S President’s Malaria Initiative (U.S. PMI) is planning to distribute 2, 522,250 Treated Mosquito Nets, to the people of the state, through a mass distribution campaign approach.
According to the National Campaign Team members, Dr. Livinus Miapkwap, (The Executive Secretary-PSPHC- Chairman Net Distribution) Gunen Lakdan (Director Public Health-Plateau State Ministry of Health), Chris Bewa (Program Manager-State Malaria Elimination Program/Plateau State Ministry of Health), Jerisha Kwakwi (State Health Educator-Plateau State Ministry of Health), Kola Somuyiwa (National Campaign Implementation Team Lead (NCIT); Global Health Supply Chain-PSM), Farooq Muhammed Auwwal (Demand Creation Consultant BA-Nigeria), Moses Sunday (State Cordinator BA-Nigeria) and Kaskida Yilyok (Program Officer–Media–BA-Nigeria) while in a parley with Journalists in Plateau State, at LSS, within the premises of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital recently, had disclosed that, “The objective of the distribution is to ensure that, “for every 2 persons in Plateau State, there is One Bed Net to sleep inside.”
According to the information made available at the parley, the distribution would be done in 1003 distribution points across the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
“Households will be registered from 1st to 9th of February, 2020.” They disclosed further.
However, REALITY gathered that, the distribution of the Nets started on the 22nd of February, 2020 as households had collected Net Cards during their registration.
