Today, Wednesday, the 9th of October 2024, is Local Government Council elections’ day as slated by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC).
According to the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Plangji Daniel Cishak, the election would take place in the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State and in 4,989 Polling Units.
Hon. Plangji in a press briefing yesterday concerning the election, had disclosed that the Commission had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with state tertiary institutions for the display of voter registers across the 4,989 polling units in the state.
Adding that, “This is the first time in history that such a courageous step has been taken”.
Today, being the election-day, PLASIEC has announced that the elections would commence at 8.00am.

The Commission
stated that the expected procedure is as follows:
“The voter approaches the presiding officer with their PVC or VIN number, which will be either scanned or inputted into the device to verify if the voter owns the PVC or is registered in the polling unit. Once verified, the manual register is ticked, and the voter is presented with ballot papers to thumbprint and cast their vote in the appropriate ballot box”.
On the issue of security for the exercise, Chairman Plangji, in his press briefing said, “Security remains a significant concern; the establishment and input of the Plateau Advisory Consultative Committee on Election Security (PLACCES) towards a secured election has been massive. This initiative is essential for ensuring the safety of citizens and election officials.
