PLATEAU: LABOUR PARTY (LP) CALLS FOR A FREE AND FAIR LG ELECTION, URGES GOV. MUTFWANG TO CONTEST 2027 GOVERNORSHIP UNDER ITS PLATFORM

The Plateau State chapter of the Labour Party (LP), has called on the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to conduct the 9^th October 2024 Local Government elections in the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) free and fair.

The party in a press briefing today at the NUJ press center, addressed by the Chairman of its Campaign Council, Hon. Engr. Dalyop Chollom, who doubles as, member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State, has also debunked the rumours making the rounds that the candidates of the party have stepped down in the coming Local Government Council elections, while also condemning the vandalization of its campaign materials across the state.

Hon. Dalyop said, “As a voice not only for Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency, but also as Council Chairman in Plateau State of the Labour Party's family, I am using this medium to state that the Labour Party is contesting all positions, from Chairmanship to Councillorship in the State, and none of our candidates have stepped down for anybody.

“Thus, it is very appalling to hear such unfounded information, being disseminated, which is hereby vehemently refuted.

“In the same vein, the vandalization of our Billboards/Banners and other campaign materials across the state is undemocratic, uncivil, and hereby condemnable.

THE CAMPAIGN TEAM LED BY HON. DALYOP

 “In view of the above, I wish to state as follows:

1. That PLASIEC should, as a matter of necessity, summon a stakeholders’ engagement to enable discourse on issues regarding the forthcoming Local Government elections.

2. That PLASIEC should strictly adhere to its statutory mandate of conducting free, fair, and transparent elections and uphold the laid-down standards in order to fulfill the assurances of the Executive Governor regarding the State-wide exercise, which should reflect the will of the masses.

The high point of the briefing was the call of the party to Governor Mutfwang to contest the 2027 Governorship election under its platform.

Hon. Dalyop said, “Your Excellency, it is on record that the Labour Party is the most widely accepted political platform in Nigeria, and an alternative platform in Plateau State. Thus, I assure you of the availability of our platform to indisputably contest the 2027 general elections”.
