NASARAWA: BREAKING: NASIEC HAS FIXED 2ND NOVEMBER 2024, TO CONDUCT LG ELECTIONS

Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has finally fixed 2^nd November 2024, to conduct Local Government Council (LGC) elections in the state.

The Chairman of the Commission, Barr. Ayuba Wandai Usman, disclosed this today (Wednesday), while briefing newsmen in office on the conduct of the elections.

According to the Chairman, the delay in conducting the Council elections was due to a case filed by one Paul A. John (Esq), and twelve others, against the State Assembly and the Commission at the Federal High Court, Lafia.  

According to the Chairman, the case was filed by way of an Originating Summons and the processes served on the Commission.

He explained that, “as a Law abiding institution, which has continued to promote adherence to rule of law and regulates the conduct of Councils elections in the state, the Commission viewed it wise to postpone all activities leading to the conduct of the elections earlier scheduled for 31^st of August 2024.

Barr. Usman, further explained that, “when the Commission emerged victorious following the dismissal of the suit, the Plaintiffs still appealed against the Judgment to the Court of Appeal, Makurdi”.

He, however, expressed delight that the Plaintiffs suddenly filed a Notice of Withdrawal/ Discountenance of the Notice of Appeal, on 26^th September 2024, which has paved the way for the current preparation for the Council elections in the state.

 While assuring all political parties of a free and fair conduct of the elections, the NASIEC Chairman said that the results would be transmitted live to cast out doubts.

The high points of the briefing was Barr. Usman’s praises for the Media and its practitioners in the state, especially, “for their usual support and cooperation with the Commission”.
