PLATEAU: WE WILL DEFEND THE PRINCIPLES OF INCLUSIVITY AND DEMOCRACY THAT NULGE IS BUILT UPON LEGALLY---AGGRIEVED MEMBERS RAISE ALARM, VOW

The crisis in the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Plateau State chapter has taken another turn as aggrieved members have raised alarm, accusing the incumbent President of allegedly violating the terms of an earlier reconciliation resolutions.

The aggrieved group’s Spokesman, who also doubles as the group’s Coordinator, Comrade Izere Maxwell, in a press briefing today at the NUJ Press Center, Jos, Plateau State, alleged in part that the incumbent President of NULGE in the state and his team have already violated the terms of an earlier reconciliation, thereby, “Casting a dark shadow over the legitimacy of the Union’s Democratic Processes”.

Adding that, “The have unilaterally shifted the branch elections to take place after the State Delegates’ Conference (SDC), a clear contravention of the agreed-upon reconciliation terms. This move is a naked attempt to manipulate the electoral process and maintain their grip on power.

“They have failed to set aside their manipulated selection of delegates, denying departments a democratic voice in the selection process. This undemocratic move perpetrates the incumbent President’s stronghold on power, silencing the voice of members and undermining the Union’s democratic foundations.

AGGRIEVED MEMBERS

“They have violated the Constitution by submitting delegates for the SDC without a Congress meeting or democratic selection that was done by the branch chairmen under the guidance of the incumbent President. This blatant disregard for our union’s governing document sets a dangerous precedent for future elections”.   

As a position, the aggrieved group led by Comrade Izere, have pledged to:

1.      Contest these violation through all available legal channels

2.       Engage with fellow members to raise awareness and build support for our cause.

3.      Advocate for transparency and accountability in our leadership.

4.      Defend the principles of inclusive and democracy that our union was built upon.

 

AGGRIEVED MEMBERS

You would recall that resolutions were reached after the reconciliation meeting held on 28^th August 2024 at the NULGE National Secretariat, Abuja with the Plateau State NULGE Stakeholders and its National Leadership, following series of letters from the aggrieved members.

First was the letter, dated 9^th August 2024, reminding the President of the State chapter to conduct Local Government (LG) branch elections in Plateau State, followed by a letter of complaint, dated concerning NULGE delegates from Pankshin LGA.

 Next were series of other SAVE OUR SOUL (SOS) letters from the aggrieved members, dated 16^th August 2024, titled: LETTER OF COMPLAINT AGAINST THE PRESIDENT, NIGERIA UNION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER, and finally, the letter notifying members of the chapter and the National Office that the union Constitution has been disregard by the state President before the press briefing today.
