Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has blamed the delay in the implementation of the new #70,000 Minimum Wage to the Nasarawa State’s Civil Servants due to the request of the state’s Labour Leaders.
The Governor said, the state’s Labour Leaders have demanded that the State Government should pay all promotion arrears of salaries that have been pending for several years before implementing the new salary structure for the state’s workforce.
The Governor, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Public Affairs, Mr. Peter Ahemba, during a monthly media press briefing today Monday, however, made an assurance that his administration has since completed the settlement of salary arrears that have been pending even before he took over the mantle of leadership of the state.
The State Governor, expressed confidence that despite the settlement of the promotion arrears, coupled with the implementation of the new Minimum Wage, his administration has gone ahead to employ additional civil servants in various Ministries including Teachers, so as to, reduce the number of applicants roaming the streets.
On the ongoing Tiv and Alago crisis in Keana Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, Engineer Sule stated that his administration has been able to achieve about eighty percent peace in the area. Adding that, “Of recent, the two warring communities were invited for a peaceful meeting at the State’s Government House in Lafia, and both tribes have promised to embrace peaceful coexistence”.
The Governor used the briefing to further advise both the Tiv and the Alagos to embrace peace as “no meaningful development can be achieved in a crises ridden society”.
On the delayed Local Government elections in the state, Engineer Sule blame it on a Court injunction that had restrained the conduct of the election. Adding that, “Now that the Court issues have been resolved, the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) would soon set in motion the process of conducting a free and fair Council elections in the state”.
Engineer Sule, who went down memory lane also stated that, as the state marks its 28th years of creation on Tuesday, the people of the state would have every reason to celebrate.
Governor Sule pointed out that the state has never had it so nice like the period he took over the leadership of the state.
He said, he has been able to construct at least two to three roads in each of the thirteen (13) Local Government Headquarters of the state.
Adding that, “In Lafia Local Government Council alone, which is the state’s capital, the Council has benefited series of development projects. He cited the ongoing construction of a fly over, which he described as the first of its kind, the dualization of the Shendam road, Lafia, the Al Makura Street, among many others.
