The incumbent Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and the immediate past Governor of Plateau State have bagged the Nigeria Union of Journalists Award for their achievements and development strides in Plateau State.
While the incumbent Governor, Caleb Mutfwang (Esq) was awarded by the Plateau State Council of NUJ in in recognition of his transformative and impactful leadership in the state, the immediate past Governor, Sen. Simon Bako Lalong was awarded for his achievements and contribution to the growth of Journalism Profession in the state, his invaluable support to the NUJ Plateau State Council, and particularly, for remodeling the Union's Secretariat.
GOV. MUTFWANG AND SEN. LALONG PRESENTED WITH AWARDS
These awards presented during the ongoing 2024 Plateau State NUJ Council’s Press Week at Crispan Hotel Jos, saw others like, Mr. Hosea Habila Mutla, the General Manager of Plateau United FC, presented an award, as a Media Friendly General Manager of Plateau United, Hon. David Ombugadu, the former Member, Federal House of Representative, awarded for his Exemplary Leadership and Impact on Nigerian Youth, Alhaji, Abdullahi Adamu Usman (MD/CEO), Solidunit Nigeria Limited, awarded for his unflinching support to the NUJ Plateau State Council, Hon. Christopher Audu Manship, the former TIC Chairman of Qua'an Pan Local Government Council of Plateau State for his focused and transformative leadership in Qua'an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) Management was awarded in recognition of JMDB's commitment to implement the Executive Order 003 in line with the Greater Jos Master Plan, PLASCHEMA, was awarded in recognition of PLASCHEMA's strategic interventions towards Universal Health Coverage in the state, and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Plateau State chapter was awarded in recognition of NMA's immense contribution and continuous partnership with the NUJ Plateau State Council.
In his speech at the occasion, the State’s Commissioner of Information and Communication, Hon. Musa Ashams praised the Media and its Practitioners for the support they have given to the State Governor and his administration to succeed.
Hon. Ashoms in part said, “I am delighted to be part of this year's Press Week organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, to remind the world of the contributions of media professionals to our society. I am honoured to stand before you on this auspicious occasion to celebrate the critical role that Journalists, particularly those in Plateau, have played in promoting good governance and accountability in our state.
“Your tireless
efforts to shed light on critical issues, hold leaders accountable, and give a
voice to the voiceless have not gone unnoticed.

“As Commissioner of Information and Communication, I have had the privilege of working closely with many of you, and I can attest to your professionalism, dedication, and commitment to the truth. Your work has been instrumental in promoting the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration's efforts to transform Plateau State.
“Today, we gather to recognize your contributions and reaffirm our commitment to a partnership that has yielded tremendous benefits for our state.
“The Nigerian Union of Journalists, Plateau State Chapter has honoured former Governor of the State and Senator representing Plateau South District Simon Bako Lalong with a special award for his achievements and contribution to the growth of the profession”.
In part, Journalist Ayuku said, “On behalf of the Plateau state Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, I welcome you to this colloquium which is part of activities marking our annual Press Week.
“As a body, we are also part of the Nigerian polity which informed our focus in this colloquium. We are here to reflect on the socio-economic state of our nation.
“To say that Nigerians are going through a most challenging, if not agonizing economic period is no exaggeration. Feeding is becoming more and more difficult; transportation, health care, school fees, rent have gotten beyond the reach of most citizens.
“As reporters, I pause to ask, what is our responsibility in this regard?
“My dear colleagues, we not only owe it as a duty to report that life is becoming more and more unbearable for the average citizen, but also contribute to setting the agenda on the path to better life.
“Therefore, while demanding that those saddled with the responsibility of securing and ensuring the security, well-being and progress of the citizenry must keep faith with their oath, and pursue measures that bring relief and dignity back to people's lives and homes, we as members of the fourth estate of the realm must also inspire and encourage citizen participation in the processes of gaining, restoring and sustaining sanity and accountability in the nation
