NASARAWA: GOVERNMENT ADVISES YOUTHS TO EMBRACE DIALOGUE RATHER THAN PROTEST

Nasarawa State Government has advised youths in the country to embrace the spirit of dialogue with government rather than protest in resolving and solving the current economic hardship in the country.

The state government said, “No matter the level of hardship Nigerians are going through as a result of the current economic downturn, dialogue rather than confrontation still remains the best solution”.

The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, on Youths and Students’ Affairs, Mr. Shuaibu Sani, stated this at a One-Day, Youth and Students’ Stakeholders Engagement on Sustainable Peace in the state.

The stakeholders’ engagement, which is aimed at discouraging youths and students from participating in the up coming planned protest against bad governance in the country, drew youths and students from various parts of the state.

According to the Special Assistant, “Participating in the planned protest would not only take the state back to the olden days but the country as a whole due to the devastating effects of the protest”.

Mr. Sani in course of his speech, recalled with deep regrets the effects and damages brought about during the “EndSars Protest” that engulfed the country in 2020, and advised both the youths and the students not to participate in the planned protest in the country.

He noted also that, it is a constitutional right to protest but even the organizers would not have the solution to bring such protest to an end.

“Think of the level of destruction this protest can cause our country and the economy, coupled with the anticipated loss of lives. God forbid, that we might be compelled to participate in it”. He lamented.

The Special Adviser went down memory lane to remind both the youths and the students on the need to improve their well-being.

He said, “Governor Sule has provided both the youths and students in the state palliative, prompt settlement of student’s bursary allowances among so many numerous benefits”.

He told the youths and students to say a “Big No”, to the planned protest but rather, embrace dialogue.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Youth Council, Mal. Jaafaru Mohammed Loko, thanked the organizers of the meeting, while assuring the State Government that the youths in the state would not participate in the forthcoming protest.

He said, “Any youth found participating should be treated according to the laws of the land”.

Adding that, “If the organizers have solutions to the hardship, they should present it to the government to implement, rather than embarking on a meaningless protest”.
