The achievements of the Non-Governmental and Non-Profit Organization, The Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) in Plateau State has been commended by participants in a Close-Out Meeting organized today, the 31st of January, 2023, at City Lodge Hotel in Jos.
The participants numbering 30, commended WRAPA, the Standing Committees and other contributors, for the passage of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and the Gender Equal Opportunity (GEO) Laws in 2022 and 2015 respectively.

The meeting tagged, AWDF/WRAPA: Legal and Social Empowerment Program on Women’s Rights in Kaduna and Plateau States, which focused on Activity 1.3: Social and Legislative Advocacy Meeting” with key actors, for the effective implementation of the Model Laws, also took time to review and take updates from key actors.
According to the Concept Note sighted by REALITY, WRAPA and it Plateau State partners, engaged in the Close-Out Meeting to ensure that:
All earlier engagements have been sustained and action plans developed or commitments by relevant stakeholders have reached a conclusive point.
That, every follow-up, becomes a tool to advance the effective implementation of the Model Laws.
And, all resolutions and commitments are actioned or in process of being actioned, with clear responsibility line for a feedback loop for sustainability.

The embattled Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nuhu Abok Ayuba has dragged the new Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Y. Sanda and 16 Members of the House to Court, seeking the Plateau State High Court to declare that, his removal was a violation of Section 92(2)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Rt. Hon. Abok, also seeks the Court to declare that, the sitting of the House on Thursday, 28th October, 2021, between the hours of 6.00am and 7.00am was un-parliamentary and in violation of the provisions of Order 6 rule 1 of the Plateau State House of Assembly Standing Orders 2021 as amended and therefore unlawful, null and void.
DALONG ESQ AND PAM ESQ FOR THE CLAIMANT RT. HON. ABOK
Rt. Hon. Abok in a suit filed via Originating Summons by his Counsel, Dankat Amos Dalong (Esq), leading Pam Gyang Davou (Esq), is further seeking the Plateau State High Court, to declare that, “The removal of the claimant as speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly by the votes of less than two third majority of the 24 Members that is, 16 Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, was in violation of Section 92(2)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, Order 7 rule 14 of the Plateau State House of Assembly Standing Orders 2021 as amended and to also declare that, the purported selection of the 1st Defendant as the purported Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly on the 28th of October, 2021, in gross and flagrant violation of Section 92(2)(c) of the Constitution”.
The embattled Speaker as a further relief, if his questions put before the Court for determination are answered positively in his favour, wants the Court to grant an Order of Perpetual Injunction, restraining the 1st Defendant from parading himself as the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
As at today, when the matter came up, the Claimant’s application to amend the Originating Summons owing to the death of one of the Members and who is also a Defendant in the matter was strongly opposed by the Counsel to the Defendants, claiming non-compliance to Court rules.
The Court has adjourned the matter to the 10 of March, 2023, for adoption on the arguments.
I was taken aback, perplexed, bewilder and overwhelmed by the ugly and sad incidence of 10th and 14th January, 2023, which have claimed the lives of supporters and others of the Plateau State chapter of the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP).
Still worrisome is the report that, others sustain various degrees of injuries in the reported accidents, while returning from the party’s campaign flag-off.
I know for a fact that, the party’s campaign is scheduled to hold across the state, as a build up to the forthcoming general elections.
While I am yet to recover from the shock and misty-eye, I want to use this medium to extend my sincere empathy to the Plateau State PDP family, the State Executive, Stakeholders, Flag-bearers and the entire citizens of Plateau State.
It is said that, he who weeps for others, remembers himself. I pray to the almighty God to grant the families of those, who lost their loved ones, the PDP family, Plateau citizens and all meaning Nigerians the fortitude to accept the unfortunate incident.

Hon. Solomon Dalung (Esq), the former Nigerian Minister of Sports and currently the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the race for the seat of Langtang North/South Federal Constituency has reiterated that, the incumbent member representing the constituency has wasted 16 years of the people’s mandate on the seat.

Hon. Dalung, in an interactive session with some Journalists in Jos said, the achievements rolled out by the Campaign Organization of Beni Lar in defense of her 16 years’ failure “is amorphous”.
According to Hon. Dalung, most of the projects, “May have been constructed in her dreams.”
He also questioned why the information about the projects were not published in details to enable the constituents trace them, especially, the 60 schools allegedly constructed in the 24 Federal Wards in the constituency.

Hon. Solomon Dalung in part said: “Good afternoon men of the pen profession. Let me begin by saying compliments of the season. Today, I decided that we should engage ourselves and discuss certain developments specifically, that has to do with one of the interviews I granted to some of you last week.
“It has come to my attention that, the campaign team of the honourable Member representing Langtang North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Beni Lar has reacted to a statement I made that, “I am not intimidated by her 16 wasteful years” and I want to re-emphasize that, 16 wasteful years of an elected member of the House of Representatives cannot in any democracy constitute a threat.
“I have conducted my campaigns within the rules of being very modest and it has been issue driven. I have decided to also avoid attacking personalities, but attack issues.
“The response from the honourable Member and her Campaign Organization to say the least, does not at all represent the language of an elected representative, who has been in the green chambers of the National Assembly for 16 years. This is because I believe that, as a Honorable Member, the choice of words would have being very decent and should represent Honourable People. But in that text I realized that, “Gutter Language” was employed by a Honourable Member, which again, brought down the standard and quality of representation for Taroh people.
“That seat has been occupied previously by great Taroh people, who under such pressure conducted themselves very well. But, disappointingly, we have again been portrayed in bad light by the reply from the Campaign Organization of the Honorable Member.
“In their reply, they indeed confirmed that, 16 years as a Member of the House of Representatives were wasted! Because, the projects she rolled out as an elected representative for 16 years were amorphous (formless, unstructured). They do not even have sites, names of places, nor values.
“I expected that, as an experienced Member of the House of Representatives, she should be able to say that a contract of so..so and so millions was executed in village A, B, and C and have been completed. I thought that is how Honourable Members talk. But, from the statement they rolled out as their achievements here with me, it consist of 10 Dames. 10 Dames where?
“Are they in her constituency in the Moon, in the Sky or where? This is very dubious!
“They stated that, they built and equipped a Library, with furniture and books in Mabudi. The library in question today, if you go to Mabudi, the structure is used as a Magistrate Court. So, we don’t know whether it was constructed by the Member or the State Government because, where she is alluding to is currently a Magistrate Court.
“They say they built “Standard Town Halls”, including the one in Sabon Gida. There is an ongoing project in Sabon Gida. It has not been completed! If that is the town hall she is referring to, I will concede since something is going on there. But, it is still uncompleted!
“So, where did she get the adjective “Standard from”? This is bereaved of real definition because, anything that is standard must have been concluded and used to measure others. In this case, this project is still ongoing and cannot be standard.
“Construction of roads across the constituency which she said I am drive on. I know as a fact that, there was surface dressing, an improvement on our rural roads on some of the places she mentioned. However, there was no sign post indicating these were the roads she was referring to. So, I could not have seen such improvement and imagine that they are the contributions of 16 years from my elected representative. But of course, some of our rural roads have some improvements. They were graded with heavy earth moving equipments. But as it is now, they are so dusty that if you drive there, you will have to apply caution. Otherwise, if you drive there, there is the risk of a serious road mishap. In the raining season, you don’t venture those places. This is because they would have become inaccessible!
“So, if these are some of the achievements of our honourable member in 16 years, they have confirmed that, they wasted the whole 16 years!
“She claimed she built over 60 schools. Langtang North/South is made up of 24 Federal Wards. Building of 60 schools in this Federal Constituency would have raised the educational index/indices and school enrollments. It would also have been noticed by the National Bureau of Statistics. So, do these schools exist? It is not for me said! But, the indices would have proved it. But of course, the indices on education in Taroh land is nose diving. Any day I am at home, within working days, I receive children in my house from the ages of 5 to 15, coming to inform me that, they have been sent out of school, as their parents cannot pay their school fees. I have been paying those school fees. This is very pathetic!
“So, where are these Hon. Beni Lar’s 60 schools? I also know as a fact that, the primary school I attended in my village in Sabon Gida, (Private Primary School Sabon Gida) when I was a Minister, the pupils were learning under the trees. I built two blocks of six class rooms for them, which they are still using to date. To my mind, these 60 schools were built in a dream by the Honourable Member, but not in her Constituency!”
Plateau State High Court presided over by, Hon. Justice A. Ashoms has ordered, Mr. John Gabriel Mallo and Mr. Bulus Mandor to go to Prison for being in contempt of Court Orders in respect to Butura Stool in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Court in its Ruling and Judgment today in a Committal Proceeding brought against, Hon. Dayabu Garga (the incumbent Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council), Mr. John Gabriel Mallo, Mr. Bulus Mandor, Mr. Monday Adachin and Mr. James Yilnaan by Masok Malo, Malo Matawal and Enock Kamo, insisted that, Court Orders must be protected.
While ruling on the Attorney-General’s entering of a Nulle Prosecue in the matter, the Court which discountenanced the application of the A-G said, giving effect to it would make the Court naked and robbed of its power.
Hon. Justice Ashom, who took several hours in his judgment to distinguish between a Criminal Case and a Quasi Criminal Case, held that, the Committal case before him arose out of a Civil matter and the contempt is not against the claimants, but against the Court and its Orders which must be protected.
RESPONDENTS
However, Mr. Monday Adachin (3rd Respondent) Hon. Dayabu Garga (the incumbent Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council) 4th Respondent, and Mr. James Yilnaan (5th Respondent) were set off the hook by the Court on the ground that, they were not directly linked to the act and contempt.
DAWAM (ESQ)
While reacting to the ruling and judgment of Court, M. A. Dawam (Esq), Counsel for the Claimants/Judgment Creditors said, “This is victory for us once more and for Justice because, this is a reinforcement of judicial principles. It also reestablished the sanctity to the Orders of Court.
“It is a pointer that, nobody should temper with the positive Orders of Court and goes free. Beyond anything, we thought that this day will not come, but eventually despite the long period, today we have a judgment.
“There are two distinctive issues that we found very interesting and victorious. First, is the settlement in the ruling that the Plateau state Attorney General (A-G) to enter Nulle Prosecue in a Civil Matter, especially when the Contempt of the Orders of Court in Civil Matters are concerned.
“My lord, has painstakingly stated the position and the legal principle and beyond any else, it would have been otherwise very bad if the AG was allowed the power to stall or truncate the punishment that would have meted out to persons who are in contempt of the positive Orders of Court. but here, the court said, the judicial powers available to the court cannot be truncated by either the Legislature or the Executive.
“So, I am sure it has set parameters of engagement among the three arms of government with regard to the operations of the rule of law”.
You would recall that, REALITY had reported that, The Attorney-General of Plateau State had filed a Nulle Prosecue to stop an ongoing quasi criminal proceeding in an alleged “Court Contempt” before the Plateau State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice A. Ashom, in favour of, Hon. Dayabu Garga (the incumbent Chairman of Kanam Local Government Council), Mr. John Gabriel Mallo, Mr. Bulus Mandor, Mr. Monday Adachin and Mr. James Yilnaan.
During the course of adopting their written addresses before the Court, the Respondents through their Counsels, had urged the Court to give effect to the Nulle Prosecue filed by the Attorney General of the State.
The Counsels had cited Section 211, which in part reads as follows: “The Attorney General of a state shall have power: (a) to institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court in Nigeria other than a court-martial in respect of any offence created by or under any law of the House of assembly; (b)take over and continue any such criminal proceedings that may have been instituted by any other authority or person; and (c) discontinue at any stage before judgment is delivered any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by him or any other authority or person”.
However, in his submission, S. S. Obende (Esq), Counsel to the Claimant Applicant/Judgment Creditor, leading other two Lawyers, while adopting his written address before the Court, had told the Court that, the criminal proceeding arose from a civil matter and therefore quasi in nature and that the Attorney-General has no powers anywhere to stop such proceedings, while also citing Section 211(1c) to backup.
He said, “In furtherance of the Application of the Claimant/Judgment Creditor, on the 1st of December, 2022, we filed a written address on a sole issue, which is whether the Attorney-General can enter a Nulle Prosecue on a Civil Matter?”
S. S. Obende, who told the Court that the Claimant filed a composite reply on point of Law, urged the Court to enter judgment in favour of the Judgment Creditor, saying that, “The A-G cannot exercise the powers conferred on him in section 211 to terminate the prosecution of Court Contempt in a Civil Matter”.
It is of note that, the Constitution in Section 211, added that, “The powers conferred upon the Attorney General of a state under subsection 1 of this section may be exercised by him in person or through officers of his department.
“In exercising his powers under this section, the Attorney General of a state shall have regard to the public interest, the interest of justice and the need to prevent abuse of legal process”.
You would also recall that, the contempt arose out of not giving effect(s) to the judgment and orders of the former Chief judge, Hon. Justice Dakwak (Rtd), in suit No: PLD/J/284/2001, which was between: Masok Mallo Tagbeng, Malo Matawal and Enock Kamo, who sued for themselves and on behalf the Dyak ruling house of Butura (and now judgment creditors) vs Bokkos LGC of Plateau State, Bokkos Local Government Traditional Council, Bureau for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, Plateau State, Joro Yak, Mr. Joseph Mahannan Dikop, Mr. Magit Mandik and Mr. Samuel M. Doy.
With the 2023 general election around the corner and the campaigns taking center stage, the former Minister of Sports, who is contesting for the seat of Langtang North/South Federal Constituency in the Lower chambers of the National Assembly, Hon. Solomon Dalung has stated that he is not intimidated by his opponent in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Beni Lar.
Hon. Dalung, who is contesting for the seat under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in an interview with Journalists in Jos yesterday claims that, Hon. Beni Lar has wasted 16 years of the people’s mandate and her failure is the fuel now propelling his campaign.
He also said the days political parties assist in the victory of candidates have come and gone and that, the 2023 elections would be determined by the trust that the people have for the individual candidates.
Hon. Solomon Dalung in part said, “What can intimidate a politician is how you have been able to utilize your mandate. But nobody can be intimidated that you have wasted so many years in an office and then you will be thinking of intimidating others. Rather, it will reinforce and encourage them charge on, owing to the wastage of many years.

“For the Member of the House of Representatives, representing Langtang North/South Federal Constituency of Plateau State, Hon. Beni Lar, she has spent and wasted 16 years and those wasted years are the fuel that is engineering my campaign.
“This is because, if I serve as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for just three and half years and I was able to influence three projects well over 2.2billion naira and all completed, yet she has served 16 years and has no single project that has been commissioned, why would I be intimidated by such failure?
“So, anybody who is talking about been intimidated by her, must first go and check the meaning of intimidation through Google or Michael West Dictionary”.
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), contesting the Langtang North/South House of Representative seat in the forthcoming 2023 elections, Hon. Solomon Dalung has mocked the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its inability to speak to Nigerians concerning the incumbent government’s policies, programs and promises.
The former Minister of Sports, Hon. Dalung, who spoke to Journalists before honouring his invitation by the DSS for a vetting exercise on him alongside other candidates contesting for seats in the National Assembly said, the APC has been suffering since he left the party for the SDP, but they have been hiding their tears from Nigerians.
Hon. Dalung, who was reacting to an alleged statement from the APC that he, has lost public relevance since he left the APC and later decamped to the SDP, also mocked the APC saying that, he speaks when he wants to.

Hon. Solomon Dalung in part said, “Security vetting is part of the responsibility of the State Security Service. They vet public officials before they assume responsibility. When I was appointed as a Minister, I also went through security vetting like this too and at the end of the day, I was cleared!
“This should not be seen as something new, strange or aimed at harassing any aspirant it is simply to ensure that those to be appointed or elected are people that do not have extra security baggies.
“Well, I don’t understand the perspective to which that people have not been hearing about me since I decamped. This is because I am a new item in the political stage now. I am also a news item. I chose to speak when I chose to speak. I also speak on national issues and that is all. I have not spoken recently because of my state of mind.
“I don’t expect the APC to say more than what they had said about me that I am no longer in the news. They are only just expressing their grievances about the level of lost they have suffered by my leaving the party. That to me is what they are saying!
“Since I left the APC, nothing is been heard of the party from the state to the national level. Nothing is been heard frankly speaking, apart from the jamboree of rented crowds, there is nobody that has been coming out to speak to Nigerians concerning the issues surrounding the policies and promises of the APC government, among other issues affecting the country. So, I can understand the lamentation of the APC. They have lost a voice upon which they rode to power!
“So, if nothing is heard of me, they are only telling Nigerians of what they are suffering of the monumental lost of a voice by my departure.
“Well, politics have actually moved from political party to individuals. Everybody contesting the 2023 elections from the presidential down to the state houses of assemblies are going to market themselves individually and who they are. Political parties can no longer save them again! This is because since 1999, political party manifestos have not helped Nigerians. So, indications show that, nobody is going to look at any manifesto.
“To Nigerians today, political party manifestos are seen as deceit! So, manifesto is not an issue in the forthcoming 2023 elections, but who is speaking to the manifesto. If the person is trusted and credible, definitely, Nigerians will vote him/her because of the trust.
“But that you promise us security, war against corruption, massive transformations in the economy, addressing unemployment, nobody will take you serious because of the party. They will only take you serious knowing your antecedent. They will assess who you were yesterday and who are you today”.
The Nasarawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial Candidate in the forthcoming general elections, Hon. David Ombugadu has assured the people that, only a PDP led administration can guarantee a secured and prosperous Nigeria, devoid of Boko Haram and endless kidnapping.
Addressing party supporters at a rally in Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state on Tuesday, Mr. Ombugadu recalled that, his party the PDP did hand over a country where economic activities were booming and Nigerians were having their three square meals at ease.
He said, “About Eight years ago, the PDP hand over to the ruling APC, but see now, they have destroy the Nation beyond recognition”.
He however, assured that, all hope is not yet lost as the PDP is coming to the rescue bearing in mind the wealth of experience the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar possess and being a onetime Vice President of Nigeria.
Mr. David Ombugadu, added that, “Atiku is the only person that can rescue the country from total collapse”.
According to Mr. Ombugadu, bearing in mind the current colossal damage the APC has course the Country as a Nation, the ruling APC administration has no moral justification to seek for even a councillorship position in any part of the country not to talk more of returning to power as either a President or Governor.
He said, if given the mandate to serve Nasarawa State as governor by the electorates, he would run an all inclusive administration by ensuring the total empowerment of both women and youths, while students would benefit from scholarship to ease the burden of their sponsorship on their parents.
He called on Nigerians to learn from the current hardship and reject the deceitful tendency of the APC by voting the party’s candidates at all levels out in the morning elections.
The governorship candidate urged the people of the state to judge him by his performance when he represented them at the House of Representatives and promised to ensure the rapid development of the state if given the opportunity to serve as their governor.
In his brief remarks, former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, told party supporters in the state that, “everybody will have his or herself to blame, if they get it wrong by reelecting the APC”.
He called on them to wise up.
The PDP Chairman in the state, Mr. Francis Orogu, on his part assured the party faithful that, only a PDP administration from the Wards to the National level can guarantee their going back to their farms without fear of molestation as well as sleep with their two eyes closed.
Former Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Mike Abdul said, the recapturing power from the hands of the APC is a task that must be achieved if the Nation is to come out of its current situation.
Members of Reality Chapel, a chapel under the Plateau State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held their first Congress Meeting for 2023 on Friday, the 6th of January, urging members to improve on their journalistic skills.
The meeting which was held at REALITY Newspaper’s Office complex in Jos, was also used to review the activities of the Chapel in 2022 and make plans for 2023.

After the meeting that latest over three hours, the Congress resolved that, members should endeavor to participate more in all NUJ organized activities and also ensure that their dues are up to date.

Preparations are already on top gear to organize a Dialogue Dinner for leading political parties and their gubernatorial candidates in Plateau State by the Plateau Coalition of Business and Professional Associations (PLACOBPA), in collaboration with Plateau Business Community (Organized Private Sector). As we enter this new year, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State, Hon. Rufus Bature, prays and hopes for a free, fair and peaceful general elections.
Hon. Rufus Bature said, we should learn to grow and nurture our democracy to maturity and should not see election as a do or die affair.
According to him, the interest and survival of Plateau State, its people and the nation should be seen as paramount.
