Distinguished Selfless Service Award: Read, IPA Chairman, Shabul Mazadu’s Speech On, Nde John Gobak (mni, OFR), Unedited

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Today, 28th January, 2022, the Independent Publishers Association (IPA) bestowing an Award of Distinguished Selfless Service, on Nde John Gobak mni OFR, for his remarkable and progressive services in various capacities to Plateau State, both in and out of the Civil Service.

L-R: SHABUL AND GOBAK

READ THE FULL SPEECH OF THE CHAIRMAN OF IPA BELOW:-

The recipient of the Award, Nde John Gobak mni, OFR, his well wishers, men of the pen profession, ladies and gentlemen.

Permit me to stand on exiting protocol.

GROUP PICTURE

The Independent Publishers Association (IPA) is here today in recognition of the selfless, remarkable and progressive services rendered to our amiable and dear state, Plateau, by the erudite elder statesman, Nde John Gobak both in and out of the civil service.

NDE GOBAK

Nde Gobak, throughout his sojourn in the civil service, where he worked in various capacities rising through the ranks till his retirement as Permanent Secretary has observed all the civil service laid down Code of Conduct and exhibited high sense of patriotism in the discharge of his duties.

He was never associated with corruption, truancy to work, nepotism and any other vices common amongst most civil servants of today.

Gobak has served under Military administrators and civilian governors in various capacities, which are too numerous to mention, however, suffice me to mention a few which included: Keffi Local Government Sole Administrator, before Nasarawa State was excised from Plateau, Secretary to the Commissioner of Special Duties, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Plateau State Government.

IPA MEMBERS AND GOBAK

Due to his loyalty, hard work, commitment to given responsibilities and trustworthiness, all the successive administrations since 1999 to date sought his services to help them achieve their set goals, which he gladly did, not as working for them, but for the state.

While under, Chief Joshua Dariye led administration, Gobak served as, Secretary to the state Government, Secretary to the High Powered Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate cause of the September 7, 2001, Jos ethno-religious crises.

In April 2004, he was appointed as Secretary to the Presidential Committee to look into the persistent crises in Plateau Southern Senatorial Zone, under the chairmanship of the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.

Under the Jonah David Jang led Administration, Gobak’s service was sought to head the Agricultural Training Services Centre and Marketing Limited as its chairman.

In the current administration of Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, Gobak headed the Peace and Reconciliation Committee between the Berom and Fulani and also Plateau State Staff Audit and Verification Committee where the Governor expressed satisfaction with the job done.

In all the capacities he rendered his services, Nde left indelible footprints of successes and patriotism worthy of emulation.

This erudite elder statesman has played a great role in sustaining democracy and preventing it from being abused and truncated by democracy assassins in 2004, when President Olusegun Obasanjo imposed a state of emergency on the state, and some of its profiteers never wanted its lift after its six months expiration. Gobak did not key into their sinister motive by compromising the handing over documents to then elected governor.

Nde, it is the pleasure of IPA to recognize your sterling, selfless, remarkable and progressive services to our dear state with an award of Selfless Distinguished Service. May it spur you into doing more, and may the younger ones emulate these remarkable legacies you bequeath to us for the betterment, peace, progress and prosperity of Plateau State.

Thank you and God bless.

PLATEAU 2023 GOVERNORSHIP: CALLS ON SUNDAY BIGGS TO CONTEST, THICKENS

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Ahead of the 2023 Plateau State governorship election, bigwigs in the All Progressive Congress (APC) Plateau State chapter are already calling on Sunday Garba Biggs to come out and contest.

They have decided to support him and also, throw their weight behind him should he decide to run.

Speaking on behalf of the APC chieftains in Jos the Plateau State capital on Friday, Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, said they have met at different levels and have deliberated on whom to endorse, and eventually arrived at Sunday Biggs because of his clear-cut qualification, personality, ability and understanding of the state inside-out.

BIGGS

Zazzagaa said even though Biggs has not indicated interest to contest, but they as APC Bigwigs have seen the quality he possesses and that is why they are calling on him to run.

Adding that, they would endeavour to provide the necessary enabling environment for him.

According to Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, “Sunday Biggs is just the man for the 2023 governorship seat because, he possesses the right quality and know-how. He is quiet and calculative, a team player and the man of the people. His loyalty and love for Plateau is evident at all times.

“Besides, he has charisma and he understands the dynamics of Plateau like no one else. This is not only due to his vast knowledge of the state, but because he has served under three (3) governors from the three senatorial zones of the state in different capacity”.

Explaining further, Zazzaga said, “Biggs was the Senior Protocol Officer during Governor Joshua Dariye’s regime and then the Director of Protocol to Governor Jonah Jang, and currently he is a permanent Secretary in Plateau State Government House.

“Undoubtedly therefore, he understands the administration of the state, like the back of his hand,”

BIGGS

The APC chieftain said, Biggs’s academic background also stands him in good position to run the affairs of the state, saying that as someone with Masters in Sociology, he understands the philosophy of governance, the psychology of the people and the nitty-gritty of good administration.

He called on the party leaders to throw their weights behind Biggs, as they push for his acceptance of their call for him to run for the governorship seat.

Zazzagaa, disclosed that, he has also interacted with members of other political parties and people in different quarters and they have equally said good things about Biggs, adding that anyone who is in doubt of Bigg’s personality can make their individual/independent findings.

With someone like Biggs, he added, “the good works of the past administrations, including the developmental strides of the current administration of Governor Simon Lalong, would be followed”.

INVESTIGATION: GOV. LALONG MUST KNOW OF THE PALPABLE INSECURITY BREWING AROUND POLO CLUB, JOS

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

There is a clearing and present danger that the insecurity being worked for by the Plateau State Government led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong, may soon be breached, owing to, overt plans by some lawless and unconcerned Non-state actors, who are plotting to build a Mosque around the Polo Club in the hub of Christian dominated communities.

It is a fact that, the residential areas around the Polo Club in Jos, is highly dominated by Plateau State indigenes and other citizens that are Christians by faith.

Secondly, most of the past crises that had rocked Jos-North Local Government Area (LGA) from 2001-2012, had recorded the mini prayer ground at Polo Club caught in the middle and has always been rooted from its foundation.

REALITY had reported in the past, how the communities around the Club had risen with anger, whenever they are rudely surprised by steps to actualize the rebuilding of mini prayer ground to a complete Mosque.

Each time these steps are reported of the attempt to build the Mosque by the fence of the Club, no member of the Executives of the Club or those in authority in the state, have come to deny or make statements to explain the reason(s) why the sands, blocks and other building materials and men are assembled apart from the contractors and their workmen, who would just disappear or stay off site.

GOV. LALONG

Recent investigations by REALITY, which the Governor of the state, the State Government and security operatives need to know is that, there are strong plans to test the might of the community again, as plans are on the way to build a solid Mosque within the fence of the Polo Club Jos.

Only this time, REALITY finding reveals that, the plotters are currently negotiating with a businessman to execute the plan, and build the Mosque, “as a private project”.

This investigation is been reported in order to stem the consequences of such plans, maintain the existing peace and stop the violence in the state.

JOS-NORTH/BASSA RERUN: HON. DANJUMA DANIEL, BOWS TO PARTY PLEA, PROMISES TO THROW HIS WEIGHT AND SUPPORT BEHIND BASSA

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Hon. Danjuma Daniel (aka Judgment Day), one of the  Aspirants in the forthcoming Jos-North/Bassa Federal Constituency of Plateau State Bye-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to withdraw from the race.

Danjuma has also promised to throw his weight and support behind any candidate that may emerge among the Aspirants from Bassa Local Government Area (LGA).

Hon. Danjuma Daniel made the disclosure of his withdrawal from the coming race in a telephone interaction with REALITY today.

You would recall that, the seat at the National Assembly was made vacant, owing to the sudden death of its occupant, late, Hon. Haruna Maitala.

Explaining the reason behind his withdrawal, Hon. Danjuma said, he took the decision to withdraw based on the information, understanding and decisions reached between the Aspirants and the All Progressives Congress family in Abuja this week.

According to Hon. Danjuma, during the meeting in Abuja, the party made its position known to all the Aspirants under the platform of the APC, while pleading with them to allow Aspirants from Bassa LGA, go into the primary election and from the exercise, elect a flag bearer for the party, whom hopefully, would complete the remaining tenure of the Member, who represented Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency, Late Hon Haruna Maitala.”

Adding that, “I decided not to purchase the form in compliance with the appeal by my party, the APC.”

Danjuma stressed that, 2023 is just by the corner hence, he would be patient and allow Bassa LGA people complete their tenure, before handing over in future to a  candidate, who hails from Jos North LGA by 2023.

He noted that, he was not under any form of pressure not to contest, but decided not to contest the Bye-election in the interest of fairness as pleaded by his party the APC.

HON. DANJUMA

“You know I cannot be stubborn against my party, and in the same way, 90% of the Aspirants in APC from that meeting complied with the directive by not purchasing forms.”

He however pointed out that this was his own position, as he was speaking for himself alone and not for other Aspirants.

BREAKING: PDP vs PLASIEC: COURT OF APPEAL, ADJOURNS MATTER TO 7TH FEB. 2022

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

The suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the Judgment of Hon. Justice, I. Kunda, which allowed the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) to exclude the party from the last Local Government elections in the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state has further been adjourned to the 7th of February, 2022, owing to the inability of the Judges to form a quorum. REALITY just gathered.

You would recall that, the Court of Appeal had earlier adjourned the matter to today, the 24th of January, 2022, for hearing.

You would also recall that, REALITY had reported that, the PDP had approached the Lower Court to challenge the powers of PLASIEC to exclude it from participating in the Local Government (LG) elections, then slated for 9th of October, 2021.

During the hearing of the matter in October, 2021, the Court of Appeal, Jos Division, had declined to grant an application for adjournment by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), to enable it react to two processes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was challenging the Judgment delivered at the Plateau State High Court, presided over by, Hon. Justice, I. Kunda.

The PDP also, in filing its Appeal had applied for Accelerated hearing of the matter and also for an Order of Injunction, restraining the conduct of the Plateau State Local Government elections, pending the determination of the Appeal.

The Court of Appeal in its ruling on PDP’s Applications, granted the accelerated hearing, but refused to grant the injunction on the grounds that, “No court grants such injunction stopping an election.”

“He was a renowned unionist in the industry, who rose steadily to the position of the Secretary General of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria  (IPMAN) before his shocking demise.

“The APC Chairman sends his heartfelt condolences to the deceased businessman’s immediate family, friends, Associates, the Plateau State Government and President Muhammadu Buhari, over this very painful loss.

PLATEAU: 100 DAYS IN OFFICE: APC CONGRATULATES ELECTED LGC LEADERS, CALLS ON PDP'S SPOKESMAN TO STOP EXHIBITING EXTREME DISLIKE AGAINST THE APC

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has congratulated all the APC elected Chairmen and their Councilors in the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state, for their first 100 days in office.

The APC Chairman said, the attainment of this height thus far is a significant landmark in the party’s march towards greatness.

The Chairman, Hon. Rufus Bature, in a press release dated 19th January, 2022, signed by, Hon. Sylvanus Namang, the APC State Publicity Secretary, charged the Chairmen and Councilors to “work in unison towards replicating and consolidation on the gains of Governor Simon Bako Lalong Rescue Administration in their various local government areas.”

He further advised the Chairmen under the auspices of ALGON on the need for peer review where they should work in synergy towards achieving common goals for the good of the citizenry.

He said, “The APC encourages the provision of dividends of democracy on a competitive basis amongst the local governments, as the people at the grassroots need to feel the impact of governance at all level”.

According to the release, Hon. Rufus Bature, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the elected local government Chairmen so far, especially the relative peace and stability that is being witnessed in the state, while calling on the electorate to be patient and allow them to work for the collective interest of the people of their domains instead of soliciting for patronage and personal gains.

However, in a swift sweep on the person of John Akans, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the major opposition political party in the state, the APC wonders why John Akans, hates the APC so much and why he continues to off load extreme dislikes ignorantly, on issues he cannot substantiate.

In a press statement dated 19th January, 2022, and also signed by Hon. Namang, the APC advised John Akans, the Spokesman of the PDP, to wake up from his slumber and stop lying to the good people of Plateau State concerning activities of the ruling party, which he can hardly substantiate.

Mr. Namang stated in part as follows:

John Akans, to all those, who know his antecedents, is a disreputed rabid and an unrepentant character assassin, who lacks respect for people with any worth.

“Through his conduct, discerning minds would agree with us that, he is too immature and feeble minded to be entrusted with the responsibility of an image maker of any serious party.

“As a result of his behaviour, he could rather be passed for an undertaker, who once settled, would do anything as directed.

“The PDP by now ought to know that, Akans, who behaves like a bull in a China shop, constitutes a great embarrassment to it as a party, which once governed this state.

“He is mad with the APC in the state, as he expects it to remain silent over his barren and unsubstantiated vituperations, which we have always considered and rightly so, as obvious distraction.

“The APC has said it and let’s state it for the umpteenth time that, we need a true and vibrant opposition and not peddlers of falsehood and rumours.

“He should back his allegations about Governor Lalong and the chartered flights. Why is that what he alleged to have taken place between 2015 and 2017, being brought out as, fresh facts in 2022?

“The APC is challenging him to substantiate the claims, which he clearly knows are false. Chartered flights, twice a day and five times a week to Abuja and he wants this obvious lie to be believed, more so by the very intelligent Plateau people?

“He did not stop there. According to the PDP image maker, who we see as a misfit, “this has resulted in the non-payment of workers’ salaries and pension. Is it the same workers, who on their own volition named the Governor as, “Governor Alert” or which workers?

“Certainly, it cannot be the same workers, who had their Nine months backlog of salaries left unpaid by his principal, who owns his own faction of the PDP, but which was cleared, by the same Governor he is referring to.

“John Akans, also claimed that, Governor Lalong has left Plateau State with a debt profile of #122b and $96m as at December 2017.

“We again, challenge Akans, to provide the source of this statistics, if it’s not fabricated in their aforesaid factory.

“Debt stocks and other financial transactions by states are in the public domain. Except the lazy PDP, if not for its mischief, in this 21st century, these can easily be found out from the National Bureau of Statistics, which publishes monthly or quarterly reports on states’ financial standings.

“Where did Akans place the verified debt of over N200b left behind by the Jonah Jang’s administration in this debt charade?

“If from N200b debt left behind in 2015 by former Governor Jonah Jang and Governor Lalong was able to reduce it to N122b in two years by 2017, does he not deserve to be praised by the PDP?

“Haba John Akans, Wake up from your slumber!

John Akans in his day dreaming claimed that the APC in the Plateau State is traumatized by what he terms as, flurry of defection from the APC to the PDP.

“Let him inform the public of the number of defectors the PDP has so far received in spite of the media hype about such defection.

“The APC unlike the PDP in Plateau state is a democratic party with well set dispute resolution mechanism which it remains focused and undeterred in its pursuit.

“The factional dummy, by the PDP to some aggrieved APC members was peacefully resolved to the chagrin of the PDP.

“Let’s assure the PDP in Plateau state that our members would not defect to the PDP as doing so would amount to committing a political suicide. Our members would not leave their home to go into the rented house of the PDP which has a very intolerant, dictatorial and overbearing landlord.

“We have proved ourselves very capable of putting our house in order. The attempt to divide the ranks of the APC in the state is an attempt in futility.”

PLATEAU: PDP SPOKESMAN, JOHN AKANS, CAN LIE! APC KNOCKS HARD

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Hon. Sylvanus Namang, the Publicity Secretary of the  Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) John Akans, as a liar, who works in a Falsehood Manufacturing Factory.

The Spokesman of the Plateau State APC, gave this description of John Akans, while reacting to a press statement by the PDP signed by John Akans himself, tagged , “HOW LALONG SQUANDERED OVER #2.3B ON CHARTERED FLIGHTS.”

In his press statement, dated 19th January, 2022, which acts as a rebuttal to the claims of the PDP that, the Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong has “Squandered #2.3b on chartered flights from 2015 to 2017 hence, he cannot pay workers salaries and pension”, Namang is demanding for substantial evidence from John Akans and the PDP.

Namang in his press statement made available to REALITY and other Media Houses in the state stated that, “The All Progressives Congress’ attention has been drawn to yet another distraction by the supposed opposition PDP in Plateau state with the above heading.

“Its totally overwhelmed, exhausted and ignorant state Publicity Secretary, John Akans, claimed in one bid that fresh facts have emerged that, Governor Simon Bako Lalong squandered #2.3b on chartered flights from 2015 to 2017 hence, he cannot pay workers salaries and pension.

“In another bid, he stated that, insider sources revealed that, a new debt profile of close to N400b has been incurred by the state.

“Akans also claimed in that very irresponsible press misadventure that, the Governor chartered two flights a day and five days a week to Abuja!

“Let John Akans and his co -travelers in what is left of the PDP know that, what they are claiming are not easily believed by the very informed and discerning people of Plateau state.

“The PDP is working with the mindset that lies told many times are likely to be passed, as the truth. But, they need to know that, lies fade out, while truth remains constant and sacrosanct.

“The bogus figures being churned out by John Akans in his latest and baseless press release this morning and the futile ones, about the British flyover and “Lalong budget of Looting” exist only in the Falsehood Manufacturing Factory of the PDP in Plateau state.”

Explaining more on the facts in issue, Mr. Namang stated that, “John Akans, to all those, who know his antecedents, is a disreputed rabid and an unrepentant character assassin, who lacks respect for people with any worth.

“Through his conduct, discerning minds would agree with us that, he is too immature and feeble minded to be entrusted with the responsibility of an image maker of any serious party.

BREAKING: D-G, PLATEAU PEACE BUILDING AGENCY (PPBA), DEDICATES IPA’S AWARD OF MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO GOV. LALONG, STAFF

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

The Director General of Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA), Mr. Joseph Lengmang has dedicated the Independent Publishers Association’s Award of Meritorious Service by the Agency to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong and the Staff of the Agency.

You would recall that, REALITY had reported that, Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA) had scored high performance in the ongoing assessments of Corporate, Non-corporate Institutions, Agencies, Elected/ Non-elected and Appointed individuals from and in Plateau State.

IPA MEMBERS WITH PPBA SECURITY OFFICER

REALITY also reported that, the assessment and scores of PPBA, from all indication is based on the Agency’s performance towards maintaining the peace, unity and development of the state in the past two years.

D-G EXPLAINING

The D-G, Mr. Joseph Lengmang in his remarks, while happily receiving the Award from the Chairman of IPA today (18th of January, 2022) in his office said that, though there are isolated pockets of attacks and arson been reported in the state, all thanks must go to the state Governor for his vision in establishing the Peace Building Agency.

He said the Agency is one of the enduring legacies that Governor Simon Lalong is going to leave behind, whether people like it or not.

THE TALKING OF LEADERS

Adding that, “This is a deliberate policy of the incumbent administration, which has helped to reduce the level of violence in the state. we are proud of it and proud of the Governor.

“We are inspired and encouraged with this Award! We shall continue to do our job. We must not allow trouble makers have their way because, we cannot surrender our values and norms.

“We must continue to promote peace in the state and we hope the members of IPA will join us too in the crusade.

“The Agency is not about me, but includes the young faces you are seeing today in the office and this Award is dedicated to them.

“The bashing we receive on daily bases is not as important as, the peace we need. So, we must negotiate it to change the mindset of the people.

“We are building an institution that will live after us. So, it calls for re-dedication and re-commitment!”

MR. SHABUL IPA CHAIRMAN

Earlier, while presenting the Award to the D-G, the Chairman of IPA, Mr. Shabul Mazadu, commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong and his Rescue Mission’s efforts for giving rise to the establishment of the Agency

He said, “Suffice me to commend the Apostle of the Rescue Mission and Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, whose ingenuity gave rise to the Peace Building Agency, which was first of its kind in Nigeria with the sole aim of restoring, enhancing and consolidating peace on the Plateau.

“The initiative for the establishment of PPBA is noble, commendable and remarkable, as peace is the nucleus and fulcrum of unity, progress and prosperity in the society.

“It is worthy of note that, the Almighty delights in peace and loves it too, that’s why Apostle Paul said, “Follow peace with all men” Hebrews 12:14. Jesus Christ said, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God.” Matthew 5:9

“Paul also said, we should pray for those in authority that we may live in peace, 1 Timothy, 2: 1 -2.”

THE EVENT’S GROUP PICTURE FOR PEACE

Adding that, “IPA is here today to confer an Award of Meritorious Service on your Agency (PPBA), in peace building in our dear and amiable state.

“PPBA is doing remarkably well in discharging its duty and we deemed it fit to confer you with a Meritorious Award of sterling performance.

“I commend the resilience of all Management and Staff of the Agency over the bashings and tongue-lashings you receive too often on social media, as if, you are bestowed with the power and control over law enforcement agencies and territorial integrity protectors.

“You have not given in to the cunning craftiness via casting aspersions to disquiet and dampen your spirit by profiteers of crises. Your determination for the termination of mutual suspicion and other ingredients of the broth of perpetual crises in the state, has projected you as great Plateau patriots.

You should have at the back of your mind that, you might not get the encouragement commensurate to your labour, as political profiteers of crises and gun runners see you as enemies and will stop at nothing to cajole and recruit the ignorant into discrediting your efforts and agency to achieve their nefarious activities.

“I will suggest that your duty should not rest on the oars of advocacy only but deployment of activities that will bring communities together such as sports, to keep the youth engaged because an idle mind can be the devil’s workshop of fomenting crises.

“Also, the Agency should put its head with the main body of Government to enact laws to regulate preaching of ethnic and religious animosity by so many clergies in the state. Such sermons of hate are triggers to insecurity at the slightest provocation.

“The Government must not sleep over preachers of ethnic and religious animosity as they have been a serious clog in the wheel of the restoration of peace in the state, and threat to peaceful coexistence, and by extension saboteurs to progress and prosperity.  Animosity breeds mutual suspicion and mutual suspicion encourages attack as means of defence.

“Therefore the government should endeavour to enact laws as it did to kidnapping and land grabbing to regulate provocative sermons.

“Finally, I am calling on all lovers of peace and the government to rally round PPBA and support it by whatever legitimate means to simplify its job in peace advocacy and building.”

By: Valentine Adese,

While, Dr. Golu, became the first to declare his interest in the PDP, Mr. Podar Johnson came behind to declare his interest under the APC.

Earlier, Podar had contested under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), then led by President Muhammadu Buhari, before the party and others merged to form the All Progressives Congress (APC), which saw to the victory of President Buhari at the polls, alongside Sen. Jonah David Jang and others,

While on his part, Dr. Golu, a political scientist and holder of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations and Strategic Studies, was  a Member/ Chief Whip of the Plateau State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Land, (2011- 2015) and Member House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research (2015-2019).

According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the Coalition, Mr. Benedict and his Secretary, Mr. Muks Gyipyo, the Coalition advised the PDP in Plateau State that, the state needs a leader with an insight, foresight  and the vision of past leaders like, late Solomon Lar and Sen. Jonah Jang.

As a PDP family that is united in focus, vision and mission, we agreed that Plateau needs a leader with requisite insight and foresight of the combined visions of our fathers, Joseph D Gomwak, Solomon Lar (of blessed memory) and the immediate past governor, Senator (Dr) Jonah Jang, to consolidate on the much-desired empirical results and the development so far achieved for the state, all in continuity of the structural programs put in place by the past administrations identified.” The Coalition stated.

HON. DR. GOLU

Adding that, “Our choice of the young and vibrant Dr. Golu, a political scientist and holder of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations and Strategic Studies is because of his political experience having served as Member/ Chief Whip of the Plateau State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Land, (2011- 2015) and Member House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research (2015-2019).

“This illustrious son of the soil has served both the state and the nation meritorious demonstrating capacity and in dept understanding of democratic governance, and hence his readiness and willingness to match theory with practice.

“It is therefore with utmost humility that, after a thorough search among many equally qualified aspirants, we found Dr.  Golu, the suitable aspirant from PKK to lead the state come 2023 under the banner of our great party.

“Golu has been politically effective and potent for the last one decade with a very high level of political integrity, maturity, credibility built on high pedestal of Godliness, humility, transparency, courage, faith and sheer will determination to make things work.

PLATEAU: HON. DR. GOLU’S GOVERNORSHIP BID GETS A BOOST IN PDP, AS COALITION ADOPTS HIM

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

A Coalition, chaired by one Mr. Mark Benedict has adopted and supported the bid of Hon. Timothy Golu, to run for the Governorship seat of Plateau State come 2023, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

You would recall that, Hon. Dr. Timothy Golu is the first to register his aspiration for the number one seat of Plateau State in the forthcoming general election slated for 2023, at the Plateau state chapter of the PDP recently.

HON. DR. DECLARING AT THE PDP OFFICE, JOS

A press statement signed by the Chairman and his Secretary, Mr. Muks Gyipyo respectively, and made available to REALITY, has called on all PDP faithful, irrespective of interest, to stand in unison with and for Hon. Dr. Golu, as the next party flag bearer for the 2023 governorship election for Plateau State.

According to the Coalition, their choice of Hon. Dr. Golu, is based on his track record of achievements, at both the State and Federal Houses of Assembly.

“Our choice of the young and vibrant Dr.

“It is therefore with utmost humility that, after a thorough search among many equally qualified aspirants. We found Dr.

DR. GOLU

“As a legislator who through the grace of God and support of his people served for 8 years, he has contributed immensely in providing succor to the people and improving the communities with some basic dividends of democracy, which are visible everywhere within the constituencies he had represented. We believe he can do better if given a higher responsibility.

“The Coalition, having concluded a thorough evaluation, recommends him to lead our state through its current challenges so as to deepen and consolidate on what was done by past leaders and to also bring in new ideas that will help improve good governance.

“We have therefore decided to adopt Hon. Dr Golu, base on his achievements within the past years.”

While pressing home their argument concerning why the Governorship seat should be zoned to PANKSHIN/ KANKE/ KANAM (PKK) by the party, the Coalition stated that, the Senatorial zone has two Federal Constituencies, and the Mangu/ Bokkos Federal Constituency, having produced former Governor Joshua Dariye (from Bokkos LGA), who served for 8years under the party and now with a sitting Deputy Governor, Prof. Sonny Gwanle Tyoden (from Mangu LGA) about to end his second tenure, it is only politically and morally expedient to get someone from  PKK, who understands  the issues, problems, chemistry and socio-economic structure of the state to occupy the exalted office.

Adding that, “While we have many capable hands from the central zone that can occupy this office, we believe that someone with an added advantage of experience, knowledge, understanding and capacity to move the state forward, in the person of, Hon. Dr. Timothy Golu, be put forward for consideration by stakeholders.”

TO SOLVE SECURITY CHALLENGES IN PLATEAU, PROPERTY REGISTRATION IS KEY---COMRD STEVE ALUKO DANIEL

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Comrade Steve Aluko Daniel, a Director in Civil Liberty Organization (CLO) and also a Public Commentator has advocated that, registration of landed properties in Plateau State is key in the fight against criminality and kidnappings in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

Comrd Steve, who spoke as a guest in Bello Lukeman’s Talk Show on Unity FM in Jos, Plateau State, monitored by this medium said, it is necessary for citizens in Plateau State to key into the policy of the Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning to secure their properties.

He said, “So, one of the ways forward is for the citizens to key into one of the policies of the Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town planning, on the issue of securing properties in the state.

“If you recall when kidnapping started in some states in the federation, strong notices and warnings were given to landlords not to accommodate criminals, else their properties would be pulled down.

“So, part of the policy that the Plateau State Government must put in place is the payment of Ground Rent, which the Ministry of Lands is asking the people to pay as a Civic Responsibility.

“This is also to tell the land owners and community leaders that, any community that hibernate any criminal element would have a price to pay.

“If somebody knows that he/she would lose his property, he would not be careless.

“The campaign to tell citizens to pay their Ground Rent and secure their property is a welcome development. We know for a fact that, on the Plateau, people have continued to have properties the government cannot really account for, especially their uses.

“People should therefore do the needful as the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town planning is asking them to do and help the government also tie it to security.

“The government has said they are reducing 50%, but beyond the 50%, the process should be more open. I also love the way the Ministry has engaged other critical agents in the society.

“However, these processes must be linked to security of lives and property.

“If government and the people don’t know who owns what in the communities, it would enable criminals bring blood money and buy these lands and many other things that would turn back to harm society.

On the security situation currently been experienced in the state, Aluko opined that, “We must condemn the act of any form of criminality in Plateau and Nigeria at large.

“It does not matter who is involved, these happenings must be profiled, while we guide against any form of generalization. This is to enable the fight against elements causing insecurity a collective one.

“It is really unfortunately when people want to run away from the hands of justice in other states and zones, they run to Plateau state especially, the Barkinladi axes. I am therefore happy with what the security operatives are currently doing there and I so commend them.

“We at this junction should start thinking of a security architecture that would take care of the rural areas of Plateau State, with these observed developments.

“To my mind, it is because of lack of pro-activeness that we may have gotten ourselves to this point.

“When there was a jail break in Jos, towards the end of last year, a lot of us were alarmed yet, we have not been able to do enough profiling and arrests on the matter to date.

So, I still maintain that, one of the ways forward is for the citizens to key into one of the policies of the Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town planning, on the issue of securing properties in the state”.

While receiving the Award in his office, at the Plateau State Government House yesterday and in the presence of the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Atu, the Director of Research and Documentation, Prof. Wade, Media Practitioners, Commissioners, Advisers and other Special Dignitaries, the Deputy Governor, expressed surprise that he never knew that he was been watched, as he served his boss, Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong and the State.

DEPUTY GOV.

According to him, loyalty was supposed to come very naturally and not induced when serving.

He took the opportunity to thank his boss, Governor Lalong for also being loyal by accommodating some of his excesses.

He said, “Peace does not mean that, there are no problems, but the maturity to manage and resolve the issues as they arise.”

THE SSG AND COMMISSIONER

He said, the loyalty has projected the Deputy Governor, “as a great patriot, who delights in the smooth running of governance, peace, progress and prosperity of Plateau State.”

READ IPA’S CHAIRMAN’S SPEECH IN FULL BELOW:-

MR. SHABUL MAZADU CHAIRMAN IPA

IPA Chairman’s Speech on the auspicious occasion of the Presentation of the Sterling Award of Loyalty Per Excellence, to His Excellency, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, Deputy Governor of Plateau State

Your Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden,

Ladies and Gentlemen.

All protocol observed.

The Independent Publishers Association, IPA, is here today with great pleasure to honour our amiable Deputy Governor, his Excellency, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, with a sterling award of Loyalty Per Excellence to the Governor and Government of Plateau State.

It is a fact that since the inception of the Fourth Republic, Plateau State has never witnessed a smooth working relationship between the Governor and his Deputy as in the case of the current Rescue Administration led by the indefatigable Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong.

There are no reports anywhere with proves that the Governor grumbles against his Deputy nor the Deputy against his principal since their assumption of office on May 29, 2015.

This made the current administration a trailblazer of excellent working relationship between the Governor and his Deputy.

We commend His Excellency, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, who by age is 12 years older than his principal, a Professor and a former Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Jos, and yet has shown a remarkable sterling quality of absolute loyalty to the Governor and Government of Plateau State, and by extension the entire state.

IPA MEMBERS

Loyalty as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe said in his speech on 1st October, 1960, is the most precious tribute a patriot can pay to his native land.

Therefore, suffice me to say that Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyoden, has paid the most precious tribute a patriotic citizen of Plateau can pay to his state.

We will appreciate Tyoden’s loyalty more if we look back to previous administrations where there was confusion and uneasy calm in the palace of power where the deputies had a repugnant working relationship with their principals and have plunged Plateau in a state of delima.

IPA MEMBERS

Permit me to recall the situation where a deputy governor connived with intra party opponents of their administration to unseat his principal through an illegal process to assume his position, likewise a situation where a governor had two deputies within the span of eight years due to uncordial working relationship.

In the same vein we have seen the consequences of disloyalty as in the case of a renegade party chairman who saw himself superior to the Governor and Government of Plateau State that all must bow to his whims and caprices or the state suffers, likewise an erstwhile Speaker of the House of Assembly who triggered confusion, setback and distraction to the smooth running of governance on the Plateau.

THE SSG AND COMMSSIONER

IPA appreciates the loyalty exercised by Tyoden which has projected him as a great patriot who delights in the smooth running of governance, peace, progress and prosperity of Plateau State.

His loyalty has to a large extent contributed immensely to the success of the Rescue Administration as it enabled the governor’s mind to be at peace and focused on his set goals, and in addressing other pressing issues.

PROF. WADE AND OTHERS

At this juncture, IPA praises the Rescue Administration for exhibiting a cordial relationship between the number One and number Two citizens of the state, which serves as an illumination to success and an example to future leaders whose aim is to succeed.

Finally, IPA is saying a big thank you to the Deputy Governor, for being a shinning example to this and future generations on loyalty.

Thank you and God bless

Shabul Mazadu

IPA Chairman

PAYING GROUND RENTS: THIS IS A CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY! PLATEAU MINISTRY OF LANDS, SURVEY AND TOWN PLANNING, TELLS CITIZENS

By: Valentine Adese (JP),

Plateau State Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning has taken the issue(s) of land registration in the state very serious, as it reminds the citizens in the state that, “payment of Ground Rent is a Civic Responsibility”.

GOV. LALONG

To further encourage the citizens to pay and reduce the financial burden, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Mr. Yakubu Dati, has disclosed to citizens that, the administration under the watch and directive of Governor Simon Bako Lalong has slashed the statutory fees for registration by 50%.

You would recall that, towards the end of last year, 2021, the Ministry had embarked on a statewide campaign to create awareness among corporate and non-corporate organizations and also to distribute Demand Notices for payment of arrears of Ground Rents among others.

REALITY had reported that, the campaign was also aimed at correcting the current observed violations of various land laws in the state, spilling over decades by the Ministry.

You would recall that, the Ministry of Lands, survey and Town Planning, Plateau State, had observed that, property owners are either in contravention or violation of their Certificate/Right of Occupancy of the Land use Act, Land Tenure Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3 of the Plateau State Land Use Charge Law.

The Task Force constituted by the Ministry led by its Commissioner, Mr. Yakubu Dati, as Chairman, last year, visited corporate and non-corporate organizations on 26th, October, 2021, to serve Demand Notices on them in the state capital.

The Task Force while on the campaign, visited the popular motor park opposite the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and discovered that, the land was initially granted for a residential property development, instead, it is being used as a motor park, which generates millions annually for the owner/operator, while the same owner has failed to remit what is due for Government.

A Demand Notice for the owner to appear at the Ministry to regularize the document concerning the property was issued and received on behalf of the owner by a man, doing business in the name of Malgam Transport.
