Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong has condemned in strong terms the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Jos, which took place on Sunday, when gunmen reportedly stormed the facility in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.
The Plateau State Governor, while condemning the unfortunate incident however, praised the gallantry of officers and men of the Jos Custodial Centre, who rose to the occasion to thwart the plans of the criminals, whose mission was to facilitate the escape of inmates and also cause destruction to the facility.
Lalong also praised the quick reaction of other security agencies including the Police, Operation Safe Haven, DSS, NSCDC and Operation Rainbow, who responded swiftly to the situation and took charge of the general area leading to entrapment of the assailants as well as arrest of fleeing inmates.
However, in the Plateau State Government press statement signed by, Dr. Makut Simon Macham, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, dated 29th November 2021, while describing the sad event as one too many in the nation’s correctional system, Governor Lalong said, “it was high time a wholistic approach is applied in bringing such attacks and jail breaks to an end in order to guarantee the safety of inmates, correctional officers, and the larger society from criminals who choose to attack the very essence of Nigeria’s legal system by disrupting law and order”.
While directing an immediate boosting of security measures around all Custodial facilities in the State, Lalong assured that, “the State Government will work with the Federal Government in every way possible to ensure that all Correctional Facilities in the State are protected from such attacks”.
As the people o the state and the rescue administration waits for the full report of the incident, the Governor has urged the citizens of the State to remain calm and go about their legitimate duties with utmost vigilance by reporting any suspicious activity to security agencies for prompt and decisive action.
He said, “Government will continue to make Plateau inconducive for criminals by sustaining the proactive measures adopted against all criminal enterprises”.
There are strong fears making the rounds in Jos, the capital of Plateau State at this hour, as the information making the rounds indicates that, the terrorists who had attacked security formations in the state are currently trapped with inmates in the Prison (Correctional) facility.
You would recall that, REALITY had reported that, some security formations and the prison (Medium Security Custodial Centre) in Jos city, Plateau State, came under attack by gunmen (terrorists), who reportedly stormed the prison facility in large numbers with sophisticated weapons.
The invaders according to our source were said to have arrived at the Correction Center at about, 1720hrs and immediately made for the main gate where they engaged the armed squad personnel in a gun battle before breaking into the yard.
“Although they gained entrance to the yard, they are however trapped within, as men from sister security services were immediately mobilized to assist the armed guards to cordon the perimeter wall and the entire area”. Our source had explained on the development.
Adding that, “Reinforcement from the response squad of the Service has also been mobilized to the center.
“The situation is presently under control as the attackers firing power is being subdued by superior fire from a combined team of security agencies”.
The concerns of the people, who are watching the development is “What becomes of the inmates since, they are most vulnerable and at the mercy of the terrorist”.

Terrorist, who had made threats to attack Plateau State especially, the Prison (Correctional Center) allegedly housing some of its members made good their threat today, as the facility came under attack today, Sunday, 28th November. 2021.
The attack, which started at about 5.00 pm lasted for over one hour and has collapsed all commercial activities and social engagements in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
Most hit by the tension which arose during the attack were suburbs close to the Police Headquarters and the Prison yards facilities such as, Jenta Makeri, Jenta Adamu and residence around the popular Gada biu.
Commuters around these areas, have also remain stranded till this time of reporting, as transporters have stopped their services in order to main safe.
Although our sources have told REALITY that many people have been killed, this is yet to be fully investigated by this paper.
You would recall that, the Nigerian Police had between July and August, this year acknowledged receipt of a letter from a terrorist group, which had promised to attack most security formations in Plateau state, especially, the Prison (Correctional Center), with the aim of free its members held in the facility.
However, from information available from our sources, the invasion seems to be failing, as at the time of this report.
As the case brought by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FRN) against the former governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah David Jang, continued today, the 26th of November, 2021, at the Plateau State High Court, a former Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet office under Special Services, Mr. Habila Dung has told the court presided over by Hon. Justice C. Dabup that, monies that were withdrawn by the former Cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mr. Yusuf Pam, who is also standing trial alongside Sen. Jang, were used to tackle and maintain security challenges when Jang was in office as governor.
According to him, the security issues were very serious as bombs were exploding in most places.
Earlier, in Examination in Chief by the prosecuting Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) yesterday, the 25th of November, 2021, Mr. Habila, in detail, told the court that, before his retirement, he was the Perm Sec at the Cabinet office under Special Services and that he also doubles as, the Assistant Secretary to the State Security Council (SSC).
He said, “I am Habila Dung. I am a Plateau man from Jos-South Local Government Area (LGA). I am a retired Civil Servant from Plateau State.
“I retired in September, 2015, as a Permanent Secretary (Perm Sec) at the Cabinet Office. I was posted there in December, 2014 and I stayed up to September, 2015.
“As a Perm Sec, my schedule is that of, Head of Administration, at the Cabinet and Special Services. I was also the Assistant Secretary of the State Security Council (SSC).
“I became Perm Sec in 2013 and first served at the office of the Head of Service. Then I served at the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, before the Cabinet and Special Service in the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
“I took over my last office from one Mr. Richard Tongman, who served there for three months, after Sen. I. D. Gyang retired from the office.
“As an Assistant Secretary in the SSC, my duty was to take notes during Council meetings and coordinate the work in the secretariat.
“My highest qualification is Masters in International Relations and Strategic Studies”.
However, under serious probing from Cross-Examination questions from E. G. Pwajok (SAN), counsel to the 1st Defendant (Sen. Jang) who was leading other Lawyers, and S. Oyawole (Esq) who was led by S. G. Odey (Esq), Mr. Habila claimed not to have full knowledge of Plateau State Civil Service Rules. He explained that since he retired he does not know much of its contents anymore.
Mr. Habila disclosed under cross examination that, the cheques Mr. Yusuf used in the withdrawals of the huge cash under investigation were signed by him personally and that he is aware that there was no complaint against any deductions in the sums that were drawn, at that time by Mr. Yusuf hence, he never gave Mr. Yusuf any query.
When asked, if he was there at all times when, Mr. Yusuf delivers the cash to the 1st Defendant (Sen. Jang) as alleged, Mr. Habila told the court that he was there only twice, but for a different purpose and that the story he told the court about the delivery of the money by, Mr. Pam was as Mr. Pam told him after allegedly delivering the huge withdrawals.
He also told the court that, Mr. Pam is a subordinate under him in his office and so, he deals with him directly.
Still under cross examination, Mr. Habila revealed to the court that, there is a culture in his office that, recipients of money do not sign after collection and that he observed the anomalies and only verbally discussed it with the Head of Service, who was then, Mr. Ezekiel Dalyop.
According to him, he discovered it was a tradition when he was informed by the Cashier and the Director of Finance hence, he could not make any change.
He said the same system is been adopted by the current administration led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong.
Mr. Habila Dung as a fact, told the court that, the beneficiaries of the monies withdrawn during the era of Sen. Jang, as governor was the State and not the 1st Defendant (Sen. Jang) or Mr. Yusuf Pam (the former Cashier).
The EFCC’s witness, Mr. Habila, under further cross-examination with exhibits before the court, confirmed that, one Mr. Eric Kangnaan, who took over from Mr. Pam, also had withdrawn huge monies for the current Governor, Simon Bako Lalong using the same process and had delivered the monies to the Governor.
He said, “Exhibit P25 on 8th July, 2015 shows that, there are 19 debt entries, from 1st to the 19th. I raised cheques for N10million for each drawing because the circumstances of insecurity are similar to that faced by Sen. Jang as governor and these drawings are during the incumbent governor Simon Lalong.
“On the 16th of July, 2015, there are three debts from cheques raised by me on the OSSG Account .
“On 6th August, 2015, the amount of debt entries was N76million and the person who went to the Bank was Mr. Eric Kangnaan. The title of the cheque was (Government House Admin Inflows).
“On 16th September, 2015, three debts of N10million each was drawn in favour of same, Mr. Eric Kangnaan the person, who took over from Mr. Pam as Cashier.
“And on the 18th of September, there are two (2) N10million drawings, N8miliion, N9million, N810 thousand and these cheques were in favour of Mr. Eric.
“From my Knowledge, the 2nd Defendant (Mr. Pam) is a beneficiary of the Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) being a staff of the Cabinet and Special Service Department, and he is free to use his money the way he likes or save same”.
The hearing of the case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Sen. Jonah David Jang and one Yusuf Pam, a former Cashier in the office of the Plateau State Secretary to the State Government (SSG) office, over alleged looting of state funds, has been adjourned to 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th February, 2022 for further hearing.
Before the adjournment, the EFCC through its Prosecuting Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) has called 4 witnesses, who have been also Cross-examined by E. G. Pwajok (SAN) Counsel to the 1st Defendant, Sen. Jonah David Jang and S. Oyawole (Esq), Counsel to the 2nd Defendant, Mr. Yusuf Pam.
PWAJOK (SAN)
Reacting to the extent of progress in the matter, while fielding answers to questions from Journalists at the premises of the Court, Pwajok (SAN), commended Hon. Justice C. Dabup the presiding judge for her, patience, resilience and calmness in listening to all arguments for hours in the past three days.
He said, “Well, we have done a lot of work within the past few days, huge progress has been made.
“But I must single out the Judge herself, that is, Hon. Justice C. Dabup.
“I must commend her for her patience and resilience to calmly listen to all arguments for hours since the past three days.
“Today’s adjournment is owing to an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), because their lead Counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) has to leave for Lagos via Air by 2.00pm, and that is true! The flight schedules are always in the afternoon.
“Last time, these same witnesses that we took within these three days, took us a lot of adjournments to conclude with them, especially, the one of today, Mr. Habila Dung, who is a star witness in the matter.
“So, now that we are through with him, other witnesses would take little time, say some hours.
“The adjournment now is for four days in February at the first instance, which means, God willing, by March of 2022, we would have finished hearing this matter and see to the next step to take.
“We are actually happy with the proceedings thus far”.
Attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to convince the Plateau State High Court Judge, hon. Justice C. Dabup, to recuse herself from the ongoing prosecution of Sen. Jonah David Jang and one Mr. Yusuf Pam, as Cashier in the office of the SSG has failed, as the Defense Counsels for the two Defendants, E. G. Pwajok (SAN) leading other 7 Lawyers for the 1st Defendant (Sen. Jang) and S. G Odey (Esq), leading S. Oyawole (Esq) in the matter, vehemently opposed the application.
The Application made by the Counsel to EFCC, Rotimi Jacob (SAN), was also seeking for adjournment of the matter, to enable the prosecution assemble more of its witnesses.
The Judge in her ruling on the application emphasized that, if EFCC is withdrawing the matter then, she can disqualify herself.
Earlier, in his application, Rotimi (SAN) had reminded the court that, the matter had started since 14th May, 2018 and that the Commission had called 12 witnesses and that after the rule on No Case Submission by the Court in December 2019, the national lockdown and the Covid-19 issues, the case could not be prosecuted judiciously.
He also added that, the Commission would have wanted the matter concluded this year, but it seems the matter is rolling over to next year, 2022.
“We are proceeding to next year, we would have wanted the court to conclude the matter this year. This is because, the time is not so much for the Judge’s retirement and the matter may suffer the same fate owing to time.
“I wished to front load all the processes in the 1st trial, because it was a trial within trial. For the sake of justice we did not go far in this matter and this is owing to the fact that more matters that had not gone far were been transferred.
“in order to stop wastage we intend to draw the interest of the court to this in order to mitigate avoidable losses, which also includes that of the defense. I have discussed these problems with my colleagues on the time factor and the need to prevent. That is the judicial notice of time.
“I am passionately, appealing to the court owing to the risk”. I hereby apply for adjournment.
But, in a swift reaction, Pwajok (SAN) and S. Oyawole (Esq) vehemently opposed the application for justice Dabup to recuse herself and for the adjournment sought.
Pawjok SAN in opposing the application said, “Our submission is that the presentation is only by a party in this matter and therefore it cannot determine to the court or the Judge to recuse herself.
“The court knows how to regulate itself via its calendar. The court also knows the procedure in delivering criminal justice and so should sit day by day to fast track the trial.
“The EFCC has not looked at the calendar of the court for it to hold that the court cannot complete the case. This is highly speculative!
“The Court has already taken 4 witnesses remaining 8 and we can dispose off the case in good time. The court can also reschedule the hearing, either weekly or otherwise.
“The function of whether to reassign the case to a “Younger Judge”, cannot be by the EFCC. This means they want to take over the function of the court.
“This is over bearing!”
On the part of Oyawole (Esq) said, the time used to deal with the issue the application was a wasted time as the reasons given by the applicant, EFCC, was not tenable.
“the case was fixed for 3days for the court to allow steady progress. What has changed between yesterday and today?” Oyawole asked.
However in her ruling on the two application, Hon. justice C. Dabup said, the court has not in any way stalled the hearing of the case since it was assigned and the Defense Counsels have given their commitment to cooperate and since there is no arrangement for any judge now, the case must go on.
She directed EFCC to call its next witness.
“If you are withdrawing the matter then I can disqualify myself”. She added.
As the prosecution of the former governor of Plateau State, Sen. Jonah David Jang continues at the Plateau State High Court, Mr. Emmanuel, a Senior Assistant Manager with Zenith Bank Plc, has told the Court presided over by Hon. Justice C. Dabup that, monies were withdrawn and loaded into bullion vans and conveyed to Plateau State Government House, while also adding that, after Sen. Jang seized to be the governor of the state on the 29th of May, 2015, over N28.5million was withdrawn from the account by the Governor Lalong’s administration.
He said, the new Cashier, one Mr. Eric Kangnaan, in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, after Governor Simon Bako Lalong assumed office withdrew the monies and transferred N2million to the Office of the Secretary of the State Government (OSSG) Account.
Mr. Emmanuel, under Cross-examination by, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Counsel to the 1st Defendant, with Edward Pwajok (SAN), leading other 7 Lawyers for the 1st Defendant (Sen. Jang), and S. Odey (Esq) leading, S. Oyawole (Esq) and other Lawyers for the 2nd Defendant (Mr. Pam) said, “I am still with Zenith Bank, as at today I am a Senior Assistant Manager.
“When I testified on 5th December, 2018 before Hon. Justice Longji (Rtd), in this same Court after taking oath, I promised to say the truth and nothing, but the truth.
“I am aware of the consequences of lying and as a Christian I can be condemned to the pit of fire.
“Before this proceedings started, I had made some statements to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), on the 16th and 17th of January and 30th March, 2017. The statements contain my name and signature and I can identify them.
“In exhibit D1A before the Court, I had made it clear that it was the Accountant General of Plateau State that gave me the letter of approval to open Account for the Office of the Secretary of the State Government (OSSG). That means it was not the 1st Defendant (Sen/ Jonah David Jang).
“In the three exhibits in my hand, I made it also clear that, the Account was specifically established for the payment of salaries and allowances of Political Office Holders.
“We had two approved Government Accounts, for Security/Salaries and the OSSG was for salaries and other emoluments. The 1st defendant was not named in the Account.
“The other Account was for security related matters because of the many security challenges in the state.
“In my evidence before the Court, on the 5th of December, 2018, is to the extent that the Account has been closed because of the implementation of the current TSA policy in the state. Today, I maintain same.
“The account had several signatories, but at the opening, it was Barr I. D. Gyang (as Per Sec) and Ngo Sarah Bot (as Direct of Finance) that were signatories. None of the two signatories was the 1st Defendant, Jonah Jang.
“The OSSG account was also used for the purchase of Government vehicles and for the renovation of Government dilapidated structures and these Government vehicles and renovated structures were not the personal properties of the 1st Defendant.
“I also stated in my statement that, money was also paid to Joevima Nig. Ltd. (Contractors), Peace Solage Servicing Company from the security account and the 1st Defendant is none of those names.
“From my Knowledge, no transfer of money was made to the 1st Defendant, no Cheque was issued or made in his name directly and no withdrawal was made by him from these accounts.
“I stated that, the huge monies were withdrawn by Mr. Yusuf Pam, but I have never assisted him to carry the money to a bullion van to government house and I have no cause to believe that, some illicit act was going on with these accounts.
“I never witnessed that, the family of the 1st Defendant came to withdraw or deal with the monies in those accounts nor, have I received instructions to pay anybody by the 1st Defendant concerning these accounts.
“As the Account’s officer, I never had a personal interaction with the 1st Defendant.
“I was aware of the sum of N2billion paid by the CBN to Project1 Account and I don’t know, if the 1st Defendant is a signatory to the Account.
“The withdrawals I read out from the statement of account were made via cheques presented to the Bank and none was a personal cheque and Mr. Yusuf Pam, was presented to us, as the Cashier to the office of the SSG. So, the Bank had dealings with the Cashier officially.
“I know for a fact that, on the 29th of May, 2015, the 1st Defendant seized to be the governor of the state, but from 1st July to 4th August 2015, there were 30 transactions on the account and as at this time, Governor Lalong has assumed as Governor and he is to date.
“These transactions followed the same pattern after 29th May, 2015 and I don’t know, if these monies were taken to the government house.
“I can see from the statement that, one Mr. Eric Kangnaan, withdrew, N5million, N10million and another N10million on the 12th August, 2015. On 7th October, 2015, Mr. Eric also withdrew N3.5million and transferred N2million to the OSSG, Over Head Account.
“Mr. Eric was introduced as the new Cashier and these withdrawals by Mr. Eric followed the same processes used by the 2nd Defendant, Mr. Pam. They came via cheques.
“You are therefore correct to say that, all the cheques used were Plateau State Government’s cheques.
President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo (SAN), at the graduation of Executive Course 43 of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos has applauded participants over the years, for impacting in governance by shaping policies and interrogating areas of challenges the nation is facing.
He said, “With the output of the Institute, many contemporary issues such as COVID-19 have been addressed in a proactive manner that is making the nation cope well and work at recovering from the impact”.
According to Plateau state press statement on the occasion signed by the Director of Press, Dr. Macham Makut, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, while addressing the graduating participants pledged the support of the Plateau State Government to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos, as it continues to churn out policies for the peace and development of the nation.
He said, “most of the participants at the Institute are not only great assets for the nation, but Ambassadors of Plateau State who on posting for the course were reluctant in coming out of fear of the unknown, but on completion of studies, find it difficult to leave Jos. Many according to him have built houses in Jos and have settled down thereby correcting the wrong narratives of crises and chaos wrongly attached to the State”.
Lalong said, Plateau State has experienced substantial peace with the help of many stakeholders such as NIPSS. This he said has brought in more investment and facilitated the introduction of a shuttle flight from Abuja that is receiving high patronage.
In another development, the Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has been commended for his humility, generosity and assistance to the members of the class, describing him as a shining example, who has made them proud in his governance of Plateau State, where he has engendered peace, unity and reconciliation among the citizens and also carried out various projects that impact the lives of the people.
The Chairman of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Law Class of 1990 Mr. Sylvanus Tahir commended Governor Lalong at the reunion held at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja.
“It was for his level of achievements in various positions such as the Chairman Northern Governor’s Forum, Chairman Conference of Former Speakers of State Assemblies among others that we decided to celebrate him and others who have made their marks in the Nigerian Bar and Bench, as well as other sectors of the Nigerian economy”, The Chairman said.
Mr. Tahir stated that the reunion provides another opportunity for the members to reflect on their achievements and also look into the challenges they are passing through with a view to resolving them.
“Many of the class members have continued to record achievements in the Legal profession, politics, corporate governance and business world. Many have been appointed Judges of various courts, while others have risen to the level of Senior Advocates in the Legal profession. Others have been appointed to head Government parastatals at the Federal and State Governments.” The Chairman added.
Same last week, the Vice president and Governor Lalong were, at the funeral of late Capt. Din.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo commiserated with the family of late Captain Joseph Mangtup Din, describing him as a man, who stood for justice, fairness and equity in all his dealings.
The Vice President said this at the funeral service at the COCIN Headquarters Church in Jos, Plateau State.
Prof. Osinbajo recalled his fond memories of late Capt. Din, who he said was a very disciplined man, who opposed and fought injustice in any form to the extent that he became familiar with legal jargons, though not a lawyer by training.
He also said, “The deceased was very hardworking, industrious and generous, as he built bridges across the nation, holding on to long relationships with friends of many years including President Muhammadu Buhari’.
Governor Simon Lalong in his remarks, described the late elder statesman, “as a man of integrity, who worked for the peace and political stability of Plateau State and Nigeria at large”.
“As the Chairman of the APC elders committee in Plateau State, late Capt. Din did a lot to ensure the victory of the party and also see to its performance in various fields. I will miss the invaluable counsel and wisdom which he offered freely”, Lalong added.
Still last week under review, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, on behalf of the Forum in a congratulatory message to the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni on his 54th birthday, describing him as a gentleman and visionary leader. who is a silent achiever.
Lalong said the Governor, who exudes has humility at all times, has continued to work for his people and develop the State despite the security challenges he inherited on assuming office.
“Governor Mai Mala apart from doing his best to improve the living standard of his people, has also done well since his appointment as the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee by strengthening the party and bringing in more members while taking it closer to the people”, Lalong said.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has donated the sum of N10million to the Christian Association Nigeria (CAN) to enable its newly elected Executives in the state take off smoothly, while advising them (Executives) to work with the fear of God in office, as well as, ensure constant prayers for the success of his administration.
The Governor has also charged the people of the state to bury their religious differences and embraced peaceful co-existence in order to enhance rapid development of the state.
The Governor made this donation and gave this charge in Lafia, the state capital yesterday, at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nasarawa state Branch.
Represented by his Special Adviser of Youths and Sports Development, Yakubu Kwanta, Engr. Sule, explained that, Nasarawa State was among few states in Northern Nigeria with minimal level of insecurity, attributing it to the harmonious living of residents of the state.
He noted that without peaceful co-existence among the people of the state, it would be difficult for Government to take development to several communities across the state, as no society can develop in a crises ridden atmosphere.
The Governor appealed to the people of the state to continue to pray for the success of his administration too.
The CAN executives whose tenure would last for a period of four years, were inaugurated by the CAN Chairman of the 19 Northern states, Rev. Joseph Hayab.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of other elected officials, the State CAN Chairman, Very Reverend Sunday Emmah, appreciated Christians in the state for entrusting the executives with the privilege to serve the state.
Governor Simon Bako Lalong has been applauded for his efforts in assisting the NDLEA Training Academy Jos, and Plateau State Command, with logistics, infrastructure and collaboration in the discharge of their duties.
The Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Gen. Buba Marwa, rtd made this commendation during a visit to the Plateau State Governor, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong, at the State’s Government House Rayfield, Jos.
“NDLEA has worked out strategies for not only stopping the acquisition and distribution of narcotic substances, but also engaged in massive education and enlightenment to get the entire society on board to fight the menace which is touching every segment of the society, the CEO stated.
Gen. Buba, further made an appeal for an allocation of land to enable the agency build its barracks, which has been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2022 budget.
Governor Lalong, however, appealed to the NDLEA Chairman to intensify efforts in helping the State avoid being used as a transit State for narcotics, as well as, handle the rehabilitation of those already affected.
“And I pledged to complete the construction of the rehabilitation centre currently under construction, as well as, continue to offer more support to the agency when needed.” The Governor promised.
In another development, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, has sworn in 15 new Special Advisers into his administration, with a charge on them to add impetus to governance and in the delivery of quality services to the people.
Lalong, while swearing in the advisers said that, “they play various roles at different times in not only ensuring that the Rescue Administration came into office, but also making sure it succeeds in building a peaceful and all-inclusive Plateau.
“This is why you must consider these appointments, as a great privilege for you to serve the people of Plateau State, by advancing the Programs and Policies of the Rescue Administration. You must bring to the table fresh ideas and vigor that will advance the cause of the people who gave us their mandate to execute”.
“As Special Advisers, Government will be looking up to you for quality, honest and unbiased counsel at all times. You should be able to operate above personal and parochial interests because you have been called upon to serve the public and not yourselves or associates”.
The Governor also urged the people of Plateau State to disregard all the misinformation and campaign of calumny targeted at the government and his person, over the recent events in the State House of Assembly.
Hon. Diket Plang, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Affairs, on behalf of the appointees said that, “we will do our best to serve the State and ensure the success of the APC Rescue Administration which has done a lot to change the trajectory of development and peace in the State”.

As the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Governor Simon Bako Lalong has commiserated with businessman, Aliko Dangote, over the loss of his younger brother, Sani Dangote, who untill his death was the Vice President of the Dangote Group.
The Chairman NGF, on behalf of the Forum in a message of commiseration, described the death of Sani Dangote, “as a devastating blow to the family and to the Dangote Group in particular”.
“As a silent achiever, the late Sani was known for his business acumen, attention to details and focus for success in the various positions he occupied in the business world. He built a personality profile of integrity, diligence and service throughout his career. He will be sorely missed.
“Late Sani represented the bright business minds of the Northern Region and contributed a lot to raising younger entrepreneurs who have gone on to become successful businessmen and women in the region and nation at large”. He said.
Governor Lalong further urged the family and the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, to accept the development, as the will of God, saying, “The legacies of late Sani, will continue to endure as he played a vital role in improving the economic fortunes of the Northern Region and Nigeria as a whole”.
As a roundup of major activities, Plateau State under the leadership of Governor Lalong has been granted the hosting right to host the Anglican Church Provincial Standing Committee, which is scheduled to hold in 2022.
The Anglican Archbishop of Jos, Most. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Kwashi, made this known during a courtesy visit to Governor Simon Bako Lalong at the State Government House, Rayfield Jos.
The delegate, while speaking at the Government House, briefed the Governor on the hosting right for the event scheduled for September, 2022 and also solicited for the support of the Government towards hosting the event, which is expected to draw participants from within and outside the country.
Archbishop Kwashi also emphasized the need for the Plateau State Government to build on the legacies of Christian Missionaries, who brought the gospel and founded schools, hospitals and other social welfare and empowerment programs.
He also appealed to the Government to consider immortalizing, famous sons of Plateau State, who served the State and Nigeria with zeal. This he said was necessary for the younger generation to know the great strides of the personalities and also learn from them.
Some of those he recommended for honour include: Late Archbishop G.G. Ganaka, Dr. M.D. Gotom, Col. Yakubu Pam, Maj. Gen. I.D. Bisalla, John Amos Kwashi.
In his remarks, Governor Simon Lalong expressed his gratitude to the Anglican Archbishop and his team, who came to show solidarity with the government, having continually prayed for the peace, progress and development of Plateau State.
“The State is happy to be granted the opportunity to host the Anglican Church Provincial Standing Committee, a task I assure the State will support to bring to fulfillment.” The Governor stated.

THE EXHAUSTED PDP ON THE PLATEAU
The All Progressives Congress ,APC Plateau State Chapter just came across a press release by the exhausted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State.
The thoroughly uncoordinated statement, which was neither here nor there, is best qualified for the trash can as it is one of its pass times of recycling issues. We observe that the party has ran out of steam but is insistent on making the public believe that it is still in existence with no activities to show.
That the impeachment of of the former irritant Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon Abok Ayuba is no longer an issue of public discourse is not in doubt. Due to lack of what to do, we see the PDP lamentation in what ordinarily ought to be an APC affair as an unnecessary and irritating distraction.
Secondly ,the over flogging of the Langtang Chairmanship seat which Joshua Ubandoma Laven is still laying claims to a one year tenure , has since been appealed against, hence further comments on the matter is subjudice or contemptuous.
We take full cognizance of the pitiable state of the PDP in Plateau state. It has nothing more to offer in the democratic space except its ceaseless ranting, lamentation and self praise which cannot be translated to votes.
The party’s irresponsible daily insults and attacks on the person of the Governor of Plateau State, remains as shameful as it is condemnable. It is the height of provocation to refer to the governor, an accomplished lawyer as a ”supposed lawyer”. This lack of decency and decorum by the PDP in Plateau state which has become the hunting dog of its sole proprietor need to stop.
We wonder why the party has deliberately refused to search and purge itself of its banalties and toe the line of a true opposition party which we have consistently insisted is the way to go.
The good people of Plateau state who had been deceived by this people deceiving people’s party in the state must be tired of the stereotypes they are being fed with.
The vain personalisation of issues by the PDP spokesman, John Akans, instead of issue – based discourse has reduced him and the remnants in the near dead party as mere patients gasping for oxygen.
It is saddening that John Akans and his ilks have failed to remove the scales from their eyes to see clearly who between former governor Jònah Jang and present Governor Simon Lalong is an emperor with no democratic credentials.
Governor Simon Lalong remains a tasted and trusted democrat who believes in its sanctity unlike the maximum ruler of the PDP who brooks no opposition of any kind hence the daily desertion from its rank and file.
We charge John Akans and the brand of PDP he has been effortlessly trying to project to tarry a while and ask why he and his hired script writers, who have nothing at stake in Plateau State, should continue to go round in circle with no clear destination? They need no soothsayer to tell them that the game is over based on the party’s litany of self inflicted woes.
The entire members of Independent Publishers Association (IPA) in Plateau State, have commended, Dr. Ibrahim Timchang Haruna (FCAN), for his tremendous philanthropic activities that are currently touching lives of citizens across board in the state.
This commendation is coming, after the members of the Association have taken time to go round the state to assess the impact of Dr. Haruna’s contribution to the wellbeing of various communities in the state.
According to IPA’s press statement signed by its Chairman, Mr. Shabul Mazadu, concerning the philanthropic activities of Mr. Haruna, the Association in part stated that, “ It suffice that, we mention among others, his noble achievements, which are:
“Donation and installation of traffic lights at British – America Junction worth N13m; facilitated employment of 120 Plateau indigenes into various Federal Government Parastatals, empowered 12 youths with brand new motorcycles; sponsoring 13 students currently studying at College of Health Zuba, Madalla, Niger State, distributed palliatives to the less privileged during the Covid-19 pandemic and lots more too numerous to mention”.
IPA statement also added that, “His philanthropic activities have no political strings attached, but community service to his mother state.
“IPA is highly elated with his gesture and saying more grease to his elbows”.
IPA also used the statement to appeal to those with the wherewithal to emulate, Dr. Haruna and be magnanimous by giving back to the society particularly, at this time of serious challenges”.
A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO),Women’s Rights And Protection Advancement Alternative (WRAPA), supported by Ford Foundation is currently training participants cutting across Six (6) Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State on how to break the cultural silence over violence against Women and the Girls in the State and Nigeria at large.
The program, which has 25 participants, is expected to discuss and resolve the various forms of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWNG) according to one of the facilitators, Madam Ruth Abwo, while welcoming participants to the program.
The training is also going to highlight the conditions that reinforces and perpetrate VAWG in society, How Cultural beliefs and Practice, including Myths reinforces rape in the state and the country at large. Another facilitator Mohammed Ibrahim Maipada, a Senior Executive admin and Programmes for WRAPA, emphasized, while presenting the overview and objectives of the workshop.

While presenting and highlighting the challenges that reinforces VAWG in communities, Prof. Benedicta Daudu, who came from Jalingo in Taraba State to deliver her paper said, the culture of silence among citizens have being the main fuel that has reinforced the circle of violence.
She said government must rise to its constitutional responsibilities and of the treaties and conventions it had entered into to protect women and the girl child.
In an interview with Journalists at the venue of the workshop, Prof. Daudu while fielding answers to questions said, “I am Prof. Benedicta Daudu, the issue here is gender based violence against women and girls.

“This issue is not new and it has been on!
“What we expect to get out of this training is that, apart from all these talking and talking, we want to now see action!
“We want to see actions from government, as they draw up laws and policies that would be beneficial to victims of abuse.
“You know the Nigerian Government is a signatory to several treaties and conventions like the African Charter of Men and Woman Rights.
“We therefore expect that, the Government will start to implement these conventions and treaties in trying to ameliorate or curb these incidences of violence against women and the girl child.
“You would recall that the incidences recorded and those not recorded during the Covid-19 lockdown, which resulted in more cases of violence.
“We believe now is the time for Government to look inwards to reduce these violence and that is the purpose why we are here this morning”.

“I am Mohammed Ibrahim. I am the senior Executive admin and programmes, Women’s Rights Advancement And Protection Alternative (WRAPA). Today we are in Plateau, under the Ford Foundation Project that is zoned in the country, which involves working with leaders of faith and culture, to demand accountability for violence, survivors and victims of gender based violence within communities.
“We understand the challenges facing our communities especially, rural communities. We are here to sensitize and build the capacity of women groups or leaders of culture and faith and all those gate keepers and give them the opportunities that exist in the communities to enable them report cases of gender violence.
“You will agree with me that, one of the challenges facing gender based violence is the attitude of silence towards accountability for survivors. That is why we are bringing key stakeholders among women groups and others to train them and showcase to them the opportunities therein.
“People are also not aware of these cases and where to report them, hence, this training.
“We have engaged these community leaders in the past and have trained them and built their capacity on how to listen to reports and document same, as they relate to gender based violence.
“We expect the participants to take their knowledge after this training down to the grass roots and other immediate communities.
“In this training, we have selected 25 participants from Riyom, Jos-north, Jos South, Bokkos, Bassa, and Pankshin LGAs of Plateau State.
As at the time of filing this report, the workshop has entered its technical session.
The Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has urged the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and its members, to maintain the established patriotic zeal they are known for in order to help rebuild Nigeria and unite its citizens.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sunni Tyoden, gave this advice today, during the Citizens Summit For National Integration, Peace and Security, organized by NIPR in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The Governor also, strongly admonished members of NIPR, to use the Summit to create concepts and strategies that would create the needed environment for unity and peace and pass it down to government and communities for ratification and possible implementation.
The President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Mal. Mukhtar Zubairu, and other eminent people who spoke at the occasion, urged citizens to keep the religion and ethnic factors behind and see Nigeria first, as a way of rebuilding the country.
The high point of the occasion was a dance drama demonstrating the quest for unity and peace in the country.

Using her Non-Governmental Organization, SWITCH Foundation, the First Lady has trained and empowered thousands of women and youths, including the girl child. This has reduced poverty, provided social education and emancipated them from some negative societal practices that impinge on their rights.
Her Excellency has also offered assistance to many indigent girls by sponsoring their education and also ensuring that they choose career paths that will give them a brighter future and make them good citizens of Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole.

The First Lady’s passion for fight against drug and substance abuse among youths has similarly received tremendous accolades as she has done so much to support relevant government agencies through her foundation to discourage access, abuse and distribution of drugs in Plateau State, Northern Nigeria and the entire country. She has also made efforts at ensuring the rehabilitation of those under the influence of harmful substances.
Apart from her role as the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Governors Wives Forum, the Plateau State Government is also appreciative of Her Excellency’s support to the Executive Governor who has been holding forth at the family front and giving moral and spiritual backing to her husband to continue with the Rescue Mission and taking Plateau State to greater heights.

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again raised alarm that, the Governor of Plateau State is working towards destroying the state’s Heritage by not obeying Court Orders and allegedly being in the center of the Plateau State House of Assembly ongoing crisis.
The party in a press briefing today, 15th November, 2021, at its State Secretariat, told Journalists and members of the party that, Governor Lalong has allegedly stopped, Hon. Joshua U. Laven from occupying his office as the Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, as directed and declared by the Plateau State High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice I. Kunda.

Gentlemen of the press, members of our great party, ladies and gentlemen
I bring you warm greetings from the leadership of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau State chapter.
On behalf of our party, I wish to address you this morning on some ungodly actions and evil plans of the Plateau State Government under Governor Simon Bako Lalong.
We are worried that the Governor has completely abandoned governance and embarked on an agenda that will further destroy the “Plateau Heritage”.
You are all aware that, the state has been in a state of confusion for the past two months to date, as a result of a failed leadership, ranging from the crisis in the Legislature to an attempt to stop the Chairman of Langtang North LGA from returning back to office even with a Court Judgment in his favour.
It is sad that Governor Lalong, a “supposed Lawyer”, who is expected to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Nigeria like his Sokoto, Rivers and Ondo colleagues, is behaving otherwise.
Here on the Plateau, we have found ourselves in a situation of unexplainable predicament, where the Rule of Law is least observed with recklessness, abuse of the Constitution and its Laws, with judges being intimidated and harassed.
Court orders are manipulated and given different meanings to suit the power that be in the watchful eyes of the Chief Executive ,a Lawyer, who has woefully failed to live up to expectation.
It is obvious that, nepotism and brigandage have taken over Lalong’s professional intelligence.
Or is it that, he is professionally incapacitated to discharge his constitutional responsibilities in line with the oath of office he swore to defend?
This is because, the events and the confusion in the State, particularly that of the State House of Assembly, where Lalong has raised a factional Speaker against the legitimate leadership of the House, and the Lantang North Local Government Chairmanship issue and his inability to provide leadership even in his party, which now has two Chairmen, (Itse Ishaya and Rufus Bature) all these have left no one in doubt that our Governor is helpless as the state is now in a pathetic situation.
Ladies and gentlemen, If government can hire hoodlums to intentionally destroy the State Assembly’s chambers, with a view to relocating the factional Speaker to the old government house for the continued illegalities, then our democracy and the governance in the state are in serious trouble.
We understand that, the main reason for doing this is to silence and deny other 12 members from discharging their constitutional responsibilities as legislators because of their firm position against illegality and impunity, as presently, their allowances have been denied.
This is indeed a clear manifestation of incapacitation exhibited by the Governor who cannot even manage his own party representatives in the House of Assembly.
It is disheartening that, we have a Governor, who can stand in the presence of God in the Church and lie to God and the people that, he has no hand in the attempted change of leadership in the House of Assembly, when it was obvious that he personally sponsored the illegal act supervised by the SGS Prof Atu and his Chief of Staff, Noel Dongjur. Fortunately for him, God’s judgment is not instantaneous otherwise, he deserves immediate stroke of the thunder for lying in the church.
Gentlemen of the press, even in the face of this imperialistic intimidation and oppressive leadership, we are pleased to inform you that on the 12th day of November, 2021, the party got a judgment at the State High Court delivered by, Justice Ishaku Kunda, against PLASIEC, which is the second case of PDP against PLASIEC on Local Government Council elections in suit No: Pl/J249CV/2021.
The Court agreed with PDP’s submissions that, PLASIEC has no power under the Law to charge and receive nomination fees for forms, and that they also have no power to collect administrative charges from political parties and their candidates.
This then means that ,PLASIEC guidelines imposing nomination and administrative fees has been nullified by the Court.

It should be noted also that, our candidate of 2018 local government election, Dr Joshua Ubandoma Laven got his mandate through the Court, as the duly elected Executive Chairman of Lantang North Local Government, for a three-year tenure to which, PLASIEC, mischievously advertised his position during its last month’s sham election and by law, he still has one year in office, which the Court has since declared that, there was no need for PLASIEC to have conducted election into the office of the Chairman of Lantang North Local Government. To this end, the Court has also declared all actions taken by PLASIEC as Null and Void.
But, the confused APC led government through its agent the Attorney General, are busy interpreting the Law upside down in their usual characteristics just to frustrate the judgment.
Even the Motion for injunction filed by the Judgment Debtors has since been struck out. Yet, Governor Lalong has refused to allow the Law and Orders of the Court to take effect.
All these illegalities have exposed Governor Lalong’s unspeakable horrors of policies of brutality, as Plateau is now on great trial and tribulations, but we will not be deterred in the valley of despair. Even though we face the difficulties of today, Plateau will rise again!
As a party, we are very determined to stand up to defend the freedom, liberty and integrity of Plateau people as enshrined in the Constitution of the FRN.
In conclusion, we remind the factional leadership of the APC, led by Governor Lalong that, what they are enjoying as party in government today is because, the PDP tenaciously held onto and stoutly defended our common freedoms, liberty and rights of all Nigerians in line with the provision of the Law.
If the PDP at federal and state levels had engaged in lawlessness, illegality and abused of power the APC couldn’t have come near leadership in the state and the country.
We assure the people of Plateau that the PDP is poised to continue to provide focused and inspirational leadership and not this hypocritical and rot of APC’s led government.
We therefore call on the Governor to rethink his mentality in the service to Plateau people Instead of becoming an emperor and a dictator.
There is palpable fear in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, as there are strong indications that, Water Vendors are planning to increase the price of a sachet water from its current N10.00 to N20.00 per sachet from today, Monday, 15th November, 2021.
The Vendors, as REALITY gathered, have formed a cartel and have constituted themselves into a price controlling body, which would be determining how drinking water should be sold in the state.
You would recall that, REALITY has reported that, 80% of Jos city residents hardly get water supply from government source in the past 5 years. While those that are lucky to have end up having supply of undrinkable water from their taps.
REALITY also gathered that in their nocturnal meeting through the weekend, the Vendors have planned to cause an artificial scarcity of sachet water in the city in order to achieve their aim of increasing the price.

Plateau State Government, under the leadership of, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong has launched the first ever Rainfed Commercial Wheat Cultivation in Nigeria.
This is at the Wheat Seed Multiplication Farm in Kwall, Bassa LGA of Plateau State.

It was flagged off by President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday 9th November 2021, with a charge to Nigerian farmers to embrace wheat farming and stop the import of the product, which gulps over N2 billion dollars annually.
President Buhari, who was represented by Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, at the launching, noted that, the Agricultural sector is one of the critical non-oil sectors, which has made significant contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and accounting for about, 22.35 and 23.78 per cent contribution to the overall GDP in the first and second quarters of 2021 respectively.
He stated that, ”A key focus of his administration has been the deployment of mechanisms to ensure that agriculture thrives in Nigeria to significantly grow the economy and achieve maximum welfare for the citizens by ensuring food and energy security”.
Also, Governor Simon Bako Lalong, speaking at the Fatima Cathedral Jos, during the memorial mass in honour of the late Archbishop Ganaka said that, ”the legacies of the late Archbishop of Jos, Gabriel Gonsum Ganaka, have continued to manifest in the growth of the Church in Plateau State and other parts of the nation.
Adding that, ”The late Archbishop did a lot to plant the seeds for the growth of the Church and the propagation of the gospel in Plateau State and other parts of the country particularly the North”.
The Governor further encouraged the congregation to seek God’s direction and guidance ahead of the 2023 elections, while asking them to prepare to participate in the process and ensure that, “the right people are elected rather than panic”.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Bako Lalong and other Northern Governors during the week under review, felicitated with elder statesman, Mallam Mamman Daura, as he clocks 82 years.
The Chairman described him as, ”A statesman, who has dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria and the growth of the region, over the years in his professional career, and many years after retirement”.
”Mallam Mamman Daura is a diligent public administrator, outstanding journalist, and editor of the New Nigerian Newspapers he has exhibited sound knowledge, responsibility, patriotism and experience in serving the society, while also mentoring many in the public and private sectors”. The Chairman added.
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is organizing a Citizens Summit, which is to hold on the 16th of November, 2021. REALITY just gathered.

As the impasse in the Plateau State House of Assembly drags on, the 11 Lawmakers on the side of Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba, (who is allegedly removed as Speaker), have reiterated their position to hold, Hon. Naanlong Gapyil, the Majority Leader of the House responsible for all that is going on wrongly.
The 12 members in a widely circulated Press Statement today in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on the issue of the introduction of a fake mace into the House, have in part stated that, “We shall hold, Hon. Naanlong Gapyil, responsible to explain the issue of fake mace in PLHA in connection to their failed impeachment that took place 0600hrs on 28th October, 2021 with a borrowed mace from LGA”.

However, while questioning the narrative established yesterday in a press conference at Plateau State Government Lodge, the 12 rudely ask why the majority leader failed to give the general public the details of the House rules especially, as it relates to impeachment of the Speaker.

Our emphasis – Votes of not less than two-third majority. Resolution for removal of presiding officers in Plateau State House of Assembly shall be by sixteen Honourable Members during plenary.
Standing Orders of Plateau House of Assembly, 2021- Order 7 Rule 14 (biii) – Where the resolution of the House is that the allegation be investigated, an ad-hoc Committee comprising Members of all the political parties represented in the House shall be constituted to investigate the allegation.
7 Rule 14 (biv) – The Committee so constituted, shall request, the holder of the office under investigation to respond in writing and such response shall form part of the Report of the Committee.

It could be recalled that, Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, moved a motion of vote of confidence on, Rt. Hon. Abok Nuhu Ayuba, in December, 2019 and July, 2021. We deemed it fit to let the general public know that, if there were dictatorial tendencies, gross incompetence, financial mismanagement and other false allegations as raised by, Mr. Naanlong Gapyil, then he wouldn’t have moved these votes of confidence. We wish to also inform the public that, it was Hon. Naanlong Gapyil that, moved a motion for the House to go for one month recess from August to September, 2021 after passing a vote of confidence on Mr. Speaker in plenary before the recess.
Let’s put the record straight that, Plateau State House of Assembly Fund Management Law provides that, the fund Management Committee sits quarterly, we still wonder why, Hon. Naanlong and his cohorts have not raised allegations on financial misappropriation for the past quarters that the Committee had met. We want to add that, the Committee held it last meeting in August, 2021 and Hon. Naanlong Daniel Gapyil was in attendance, as Member of the Committee.
