HOW CAN THERE BE A SENSE OF PATRIOTISM, WHEN GOVT HAS ABANDONED CITIZENS, TO KILLERS? PDP BERATES GOV. LALONG, APC

By: valentine Adese (JP) and Alfred Saiki,

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Simon Bako Lalong, of Plateau State, for making the citizens of the state to lose their sense of patriotism because of the administration’s neglect for them.

The Party, while assessing the achievements of the Lalong led administration within the last Five (5) years, has described the APC/Lalong administration as a failure especially, when it abandoned citizens into the hands of marauders, bandits, herdsmen, kidnappers, among others.

The PDP, in a press release, dated 29th July, 2020, signed by the State Head of Media, Hon. John Akans and made available to REALITY, stated that, “Now the question is: How can the people instill a sense of patriotism in its own state when its own government has abandoned them in the hands of marauders, bandits, herdsmen, kidnappers, etc?

“What investors is Governor Lalong asking Plateau people to attract, when he has traveled out of the country for over 98 times on our behalf to woo investors without any success up to today?

“Suddenly government is now asking its incapacitated citizens to attract investors. How?

“After wasting tax payers money for the past five years on foreign trips without single achievement, is it now by constituting an academic committee that will attract investors?

“Plateau people are watching, God is watching!’

The Party also accused the APC administration led by Governor Simon Bako Lalong, of all forms of violations especially, on the issue of rule of law.

“Recall that, some weeks back, two democratically elected Local Government Chairmen were illegally suspended from office, against the rule of law by the APC controlled State Assembly, while Four (4) local government areas in the state are still under authoritarian leadership, subjecting the people of those areas to absence of political freedom to choose their own leaders for almost three (3) years now. Haba, APC!

“In a free democratic era such as this, we all know that the essence of governance is service to the people through the provision of basic amenities and adding value to the people in a democratic manner.” PDP stated.

29th Day of July 2020.

APC DESTROYING THE RULE OF LAW AND DUE PROCESS IN PLATEAU

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Plateau State chapter is saddened with the continuous violation of the rule of law and extensive use of suppression against the people of the state by the Governor Lalong led administration.

Recall that, some weeks back, two democratically elected Local Government Chairmen were illegally suspended from office, against the rule of law by the APC controlled State Assembly, while Four (4) local government areas in the state are still under authoritarian leadership, subjecting the people of those areas to absence of political freedom to choose their own leaders for almost three (3) years now. Haba APC!

In a free democratic era such as this, we all know that the essence of governance is service to the people through the provision of basic amenities and adding value to the people in a democratic manner.

It is expected that, government responsiveness to the interest, welfare and needs of the people is strictly observed within the rules of law and democratic processes to advance the peoples’ rights, equality and accountability, but it’s most unfortunate that Governor Lalong has continued to display a monocratic style of governance, against the interest of our people.

In every serious democratic setting, the rule of law is fundamental! This should be the fundamental objective of governance and instead of defending and protecting the rights and interest of the people, we are here faced with a totalitarian style of governance, where people are being subjected to undemocratic situations.

We appreciate our Nine (9) State Assembly Members, for their commitment and determination to defend the peoples’ rights and interests even in the face of intimidation and threats. We are grateful even as we still call on you to continue defending the peoples’ interests from the insane policies of the APC led administration because, this lawless act has not only brought an explosive situation, but is extremely dangerous to our stability and security.

APC has completely lost its sense of democratic ideals as a result of its monocracy, its leadership is now grabbing at straws to shield their obvious misdeeds in governance.

Five years gone with nothing to show for it, and some projects inherited from the last PDP’s administration are left unattended to (in fact abandoned), while some have been earmarked for re-commissioning. The Mararaban jama’a road, the Secretariat road and many others, which were initiated and at the verge of completion by the past PDP government are yet to be completed after five years in office.

You may also recall that, we were told by the Commissioner for Information during the COVID-19 lockdown that, Governor Lalong will be going round to commission some completed projects across the three senatorial districts in the state to mark his 100 days in office, but up to this moment no project has been commissioned for that purpose. Only for us to hear that, the government is planning to utilize the existing projects previously built and commissioned by the last PDP administration in the state, as part of its achievement for five years in office.

Examples of such projects are the old airport roundabout, that was built by NESCO, as part of its Cooperate Social Responsibility, the road to Rayfield from the roundabout and the State Secretariat road. This is laughable!

This, we have said times without number that the APC leadership is nothing but a show of shame, and that our heritage as a people has been physically devalued and harmed under this administration. Now we have been vindicated.

During the inauguration of a committee by Governor Lalong, to create identity for Plateau, the Hon Commissioner for tourism and culture, Hon. Tamwakat Weli, was quoted to have said that, peoples sense of value and cultural heritage founded by our founding fathers have been devalued (by the APCs administration of course), which calls for urgent action to fine tune the old core values of our forefathers.

Now the question is: How can the people instill a sense of patriotism in its own state when its own government has abandoned them in the hands of marauders, bandits, herdsmen, kidnappers etc?

What investors is Governor Lalong asking plateau people to attract when he has traveled out of the country for over 98 times on our behalf to woo investors without any success up to today?

Suddenly government is now asking its incapacitated citizens to attract investors, how?

After wasting tax payers money for the past five years on foreign trips without single achievement, is it now by constituting an academic committee that will attract investors?

Plateau people are watching, God is watching!

Signed:

John .T. Akans ksm,FICA JP.
