Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom (Esq) have vowed to bring to an end the frequent killings of innocent lives and unwanton destruction of properties between herders and farmers within the border areas of the two states.

Speaking at a peace meeting held in Yelwata Village in Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, between the two Governors, they also promised to promote peaceful co-existence among communities within the two states.

The Governors pointed out that, it has even become more necessary to stop the blood bath at all cost, especially, realizing the fact that, the people of the two states are brothers and sisters.

The two Governors, who expressed their deep appreciation to President Mohammadu Buhari for the deployment of Air force Personnel to the North Central Zone, noted that the gesture would go a long way in restoring normalcy in the two states.

On his part, Governor Sule explained that, the meeting was necessitated following the recent killings within the border areas which sparked off counter accusations amongst the two border communities.

He said, while herders in Nasarawa State are pointing accusing fingers on Livestock Guards of Benue State for the killing of their kinsmen, the Livestock guards denied the claim arguing that, they do not operate outside their border areas.

The Governor warned herders from Nasarawa State to desist from grazing in Benue State because of the Grazing Law in force in the state.

In his response, Governor Samuel Ortom (Esq) of Benue state expressed gratitude to his Nasarawa State counterpart, for initiating the peace meeting and ordered for the arrest of the Livestock Guards from the state that operated in Nasarawa State.

The meeting was also attended by Chairmen of Local Government Councils of the two border states and Traditional Rulers.
