As the 7th Assembly of Anambra state kick starts its legislative functions, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor has constituted members of a Special Committee.

The Committee consists of the Speaker, who is to serve as the Chairman, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader, House Whip and the Minority Leader. The Speaker made it known that, if the need arises, he may include other members into the committee.

According to the Speaker, the Committee’s duties shall be; nominating members of various committees, consideration of any special matter brought before the House, nomination of members that go on special delegation with prejudice to the general tenure.

Other functions of the special committee include, monitor, review and evaluate the performance of various committees.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uche Okafor Charged the Committee to work by the specification of the standing order by making sure that in the next adjourned date, the Assembly will be expecting to have a legislative agenda, why they are at the State Assembly and what the 7th Assembly intends to achieve within the tenure and also to provide for the House with list of committees and their members and other duties as inscribed at the House standing order.

“Do your best, make the 7th Assembly a proud Assembly”, Okafor urged the Committee.

Recall that in accordance with the standing order of the Assembly, within the first thirty legislative days, following the first sitting of the House, the membership of special committees shall be appointed.

Some of the expected Committees, include, Committee on selection, Committee on Roads and Business, Committee on House Services, Committee on Public Petitions, Committee on Public Accounts and Committee on Privileges.
