As the inauguration of 9th Bauchi State House of Assembly is scheduled for Thursday 20th, 2019, a member-elect for Ningi constituency, Hon. Abubakar Suleiman has debunked insinuations that he has backed down from the race.
“My attention has been drawn to various news item making the rounds, with regard to my aspiration for the Speakership of Bauchi State House of Assembly”. Suleiman said in a press release on Monday in Bauchi.
To make his position clear, the Member-elect added that, “All Progressives Congress ( APC) invited us for a meeting with all stakeholders of the party in Kano, yesterday, ahead of our inauguration. During the meeting, the leadership of the party and stakeholders announced their resolution to endorse former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina, to return as Speaker and asked all members to abide by the directive”.
According to him, “under such unfamiliar and strange arrangement, my lone objection to the directive may not change anything at the meeting. I, immediately contacted my constituents, well wishers and other good citizens of Bauchi State”.
Suleiman explained that the directive by the APC, was rejected by his constituency and the entire people of Bauchi State on the ground that it is detrimental to them.
“They told me that my race for speakership is for the interest of the people of Bauchi State, as against individual interest, thus I can’t in whatever arrangement abandon the interest of the people of Bauchi State for the interest of few”. He added.
He said further that hundreds of APC supporters have trooped to Bauchi in solidarity to his aspiration for the Speakership as they rejected the position of the party directing him to go ahead with the aspiration in the interest of his constituents and the State in General.
The Speakership contender said he is in the race for the best interest of Ningi local government area and Bauchi State as a whole.
