International Women’s day: Help create political, business opportunities for women – Bauchi State Governor’s wife

By: Luka Daniel (Bauchi),

Governments at all levels have been urged to ensure all-inclusive policies that would create opportunities for women in politics and business.

The wife of Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Hajiya Hadiza made the call on Friday during an occasion to celebrate international women’s day in Bauchi.

According to Hadiza, this year’s theme: ‘Think equal, build smart, and innovate for change’, could not have come at a better time than now when Nigerian women need more support to ensure the realization of the positive change they expect from the present administration.

The wife of the Governor said the day is marked every March 8, by the United Nations and other global organisations to bring to the fore issues that affect women.

She observed that in spite of efforts to expand the frontiers for women, there was a more urgent need to focus on women in the rural areas.

Hajiya Hadiza explained that those in the rural areas needed inclusive policies, financial support and social structures that would aid them in making positive contributions to development.

“It is imperative to press for progress across different markers of development, especially for women, and ensure that spaces are created for them to achieve their potentials”. Hadiza said.

She commended the state government for empowering women by creating opportunities for them to expand in business through various skills acquisition programmes.

The wife of the Governor therefore called on the state government and other supporting NGOs to pay particular attention to areas of social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure.

Hajia Hadiza Abubakar used the medium to reiterate the readiness of her NGO, B-SWEEP to continue to introduce new programmes that would improve the living condition of  women especially those in rural settings.
