“We have further gathered that if he does not cooperate, he would be removed and his Deputy to take over. This is really sad!”, Hon. Sango unveiled.

However, in the course of the press briefing, the Chairman also disclosed that intelligence report available to them as a party, indicates that the ruling APC and its gubernatorial candidate have been busy working on other plans to also rig the coming Saturday’s elections in the state.

Sango in part said, “Acting true to their genetic make-ups, and realizing now they may not get the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC) in the State to dance to their tune of music in some electoral areas, they have kept themselves busy in the last one week at the old Government House, Rayfield perfecting their rigging strategies.

Publicity Secretary, Hon. Akans Anchoring.

“As I address you, we have detailed information on the specific Local Government Areas and locations in the Central Zone where they intend to execute their wicked plans. These include outright use of already thumb-printed ballot papers, intimidation and harassment of voters at both polling points and collation centers, collusion with electoral and Security agents to cause the late arrival of election materials and deliberate tempering with voting machines”.

TEXT, OF A PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE CHAIRMAN, PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP), PLATEAU STATE, HON. DAMISHI. T. SANGO, ON TUESDAY 5, 2019, AT THE PARTY SECRETARIAT, NO. 20/22, YAKUBU GOWON WAY, JOS.

Gentlemen of the Press

You will recall that last week, I had cause to address you here on political happenings on the Plateau. I was specific on issues bordering on the conduct and outcome of the Presidential and National Assembly elections. I am glad some issues raised were tackled by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Today, I have invited you here to address you on some of our concerns about the up-coming governorship and House of Assembly Elections.

I must right from the outset say that the national elections were a huge success for the PDP in the state. Despite the heavy rigging, our party overwhelmingly won the Presidential election. It is our conviction that this particular result and the outcome of the local government elections in October 2018 were a referendum on the Lalong administration. They all prove the point that the people of Plateau do not want him as their governor.

Intelligence reports available to us indicate that the ruling APC and its governorship Candidate, Governor Simon Lalong are busy working on plans to rig the elections. Acting true to their genetic make-ups, and realizing now they may not get the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC) in the State to dance to their tune of music in some electoral areas, they have kept themselves busy in the last one week at the old Government House, Rayfield perfecting their rigging strategies.

As I address you, we have detailed information on the specific Local Government Areas and locations in the Central Zone where they intend to execute their wicked plans. These include outright use of already thumb-printed ballot papers, intimidation and harassment of voters at both polling points and collation centres, collusion with electoral and Security agents to cause the late arrival of election materials and deliberate tempering with voting machines.

In the Southern Zone, they intend to use the Military to cause fear amongst our people, especially in Shendam and Qua’an Pan Local Government Areas.

As is the case with the Southern Zone so also in the Northern Zone. Here they plan to cause fear amongst the voters and thereafter smuggle in the already thumb-printed ballot papers.

We are equally aware of threats to Civil Servants, especially Directors, Deputy Directors and school principals to go and deliver their areas to Governor Lalong or risk losing their jobs.

Ladies and gentlemen, we know that no matter their level of desperation and the perfection of their manipulations, unless they receive the cooperation of INEC, their efforts will come to naught. But with INEC also coming under serious public scrutiny we are confident that Governor Lalong and his ruling APC are embarking on a fruitless adventure.

We are equally confident that the security personnel in Plateau will not want to embark on any act that will tamper with the already fragile prevailing peace in the State.

We therefore strongly condemn all the moves already hatched and the detestable and shameful measure still being contemplated by Governor Lalong and the APC to frustrate the full expression of the freedom of the people of Plateau State. It is shameful that one who swore to defend the people and all they stand for has chosen to go all out against them. Today, the people have come out to tell Governor Lalong and the APC that they have lost trust in them and have decided to thus reject them at in the polls.

Building on this outright rejection of Governor Lalong and the ruling APC, we call on the peaceful people of Plateau State to come out en masse on Saturday, March 9 to vote for Senator Jeremiah Timbut Useni and all our candidates in the State House of Assembly elections.

I appeal to all Plateau citizens to leave behind the pains that followed the cancellation of their votes in certain areas. I call on all to join forces with all the progressive elements in the land who are determined to restore our lost glory as a people and State.

As I conclude this address, I appeal to all our members, supporters and well-wishers across the length and breadth of Plateau to continue to remain calm but very alert and determined as we move towards Saturday, March 9.

I ask that we remain peaceful before, during and after the elections. Let us refuse to be provoked and so give the enemies of our democracy room to undermine our efforts toward a better and greater Plateau State.

Thank you!
