The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday 4th of January, 2019, flagged off its campaign in Plateau state, at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, with the party receiving support from 51 other political parties in the state.
Governor Simon Lalong, alongside his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden, received the party flag from the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, at the flag off and declared that the party was only going on a thank you rally and not campaign for votes.
“I know my Deputy Governor, who is now fresh with a new flag, because the flag is only going to be used for the waving; it’s not for campaign because, everybody in Nigeria knows that whether you like it or not, by God’s grace Buhari is coming back again. But because we have already scheduled time for campaign, we have to go for formality, to tell people thank you. It is the same thing in Plateau state”.
“People ask me, why do you die for this man? I say, look in every situation, God can always bring a helper for somebody. When I became governor, I didn’t know where to start, I turned left and right and I realized that I had a helper, and that helper is today my godfather, President Muhammadu Buhari. Because anything I ask from President Buhari, he will say grant it or I have given you. He has given us peace in this state; he has given us a lot of things, why will I not die for him?”, Lalong said.
Earlier the APC Chairman in Plateau state, Hon. Letep Dabang, presented the Chairmen of 51 political parties in Plateau state who have decided to support the re-election bid of both President Muhammdu Buhari and Gov. Simon Lalong in the 2019 general elections to the National Chairman of the APC. In the same vain the APC received decampees from other political parties, which included Amb. Chris Giwa and Alh. Abubakar Dashe, among others. Receiving the decampees, the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, described them as appreciating the good works of Lalong which led them to join the party.
Comrade Oshiomole, said he was in Jos himself to review Lalong’s stewardship so far, “I came here to join my brothers and sisters on the Plateau to review the testimonial of my dear friend, to review his 3 and a half years as governor. I am happy my brother recognizes that the primary purpose of government is the welfare of the people”.
On his part, the Director General (DG), Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign, Hon. Rotimi Ameachi, while describing Lalong as a humble man, emphasized that the key to governance is knowing that poverty is one of the major problems Nigerians are facing. To address this issue, he said, human capital development is important.
Other dignitaries, who graced the flag off include, Dame Pauline Tallen who represented the first Lady, Aisha Buhari, Sen. George Akume, Alh. Hadi Sirika, among others.
