PLATEAU STATE HIGH COURT COMPLEX WITH YEARS OF NO PROPER CONVENIENCES OR LATRINES

By: Valentine Adese and Reuben Egbah,

The health situation in and around the Plateau State High Court complex is becoming more worrisome, as years roll by with no proper conveniences or latrines in place for the staffers, litigants and members of the public, who visit the complex on daily basis for one legal transaction or the other.

Sad also is the fact that the conveniences provided for the Judges of the state in their respective chambers has nothing to write about, as they (Judges) find it hard to allow their guest(s) to use them, owing either to their dilapidated nature or out of use state.

You would recall that Plateau state has been governed by many, who to a large extent turn out later in life to be litigants or accused persons before the High Court.

FORMER GOV. DARIYE OF PLATEAU STATE IN COURT

A case at hand was the desperate need of Sen. Jonah Jang, the immediate past governor of the state, who was pressed and needed to use a convenience, while he was in the dock, during his trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, 30th October, 2018, but could not be directed to any because, none was available or those earlier constructed are out of use.

Findings by REALITY can authoritatively indicate that, excreta of humans and animals alike could be seen all over the complex, as litigants, security, staffers and others have to use any hidden place to help themselves in order to save themselves from any embarrassment it may cause.

The worries of many, who have frowned at this development for many years is that, the present Governor of the state is a Lawyer, who has being carrying out his legal practice in and around the Court complex for years and he is aware of the issue, yet, the situation has remained the same.

INCUMBENT GOVERNOR, RT. HON. LALONG, A LAWYER

You would recall that the new complex of the Judiciary, which the former governor of the state, Jonah Jang, started, had received the completion blessing of the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong. But, the structure is still at “work-in-progress” category.

How long will this sad situation continue?
