PLATEAU STATE LG ELECTIONS: GOV LALONG SWEARS IN NEWLY ELECTED CHAIRMEN, CALLS FOR CALM, AS PDP KICKS

By: Valentine Adese,

Plateau state Governor, Simon Lalong has asked citizens of the state not to do anything that may affect the peace of the state. Lalong said anyone who feels aggrieved over the result of the local government elections as announced by the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASEIC), should tow the democratic path by approaching the local government elections petition tribunal to ventilate his or her grievances.

The Governor in a message signed by the state Commissioner of Information and Communication, Mr. Yakubu Dati, stated that,” the Local Government Election Appeals Tribunal ha been inaugurated even before the local government polls took place”.

Adding that, “As a democrat, the Governor cannot interfere in the work of PLASEIC being an independent institution.”

Governor Lalong was quoted as saying that, “PLASEIC is headed by a credible leadership, that is ready to make clarifications on the polls”, claiming that questions relating to the elections “should be directed to the body and not the Governor”.

Governor Lalong in his speech during the swearing in of the newly elected Local government chairmen at the State House Little Rayfield, assured citizens of his administration’s commitment to peace, justice and fairness.

“In any context, there must be a winner and loser and therefore ask winners to be magnanimous in victory while losers should be humble in defeat”. Governor Lalong added.
