URGENTLY REHABILITATE, UKE NKPOR-NNOBI ROAD DAMAGED BY EROSION. ANAMBRA STATE LAWMAKERS URGE THE STATE GOVT, FG

The Anambra State House of Assembly (ASHA) Members on Tuesday 31st July, 2018, at plenary, called on the Governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, to direct the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and other relevant agencies, as a matter of urgency, to mobilize and commence work at the erosion site in Uke town along Nkpor Nnobi road.

Chief sponsor of the motion, Hon. Ezenwune Febian Chukwuka, member representing Idemili South, urged his fellow lawmakers to support and add their voices in calling for the urgent intervention by the state government on one of the busiest roads in the state.

“If an urgent action is not taken, the erosion will bring untold hardship and suffering not only to the people of Idemili North and South Constituency, but to the whole Anamberians”. He submitted

Other members in their separate submission, urged the number one citizen of the state to direct the appropriate ministries to do the needful.

“Let all relevant agencies please redeem themselves. The situation in Uke-Npkor road is disturbing, as some of us have been victims of flood in that area. I urge Ndi-Anambra, to also play their part in curbing this menace by raising alarm early enough and not wait till the damage has been done”.

“Erosion is a product of flood. Apart from being a natural disaster, it is also most times caused by citizens. I advise the chairman, members of the environment committee and all ministries connected to environment and works and road maintenance to put in more effort in addressing the menace of flooding.

“I urge them to go back to the drawing board and come up with a lasting solution to the problem of flooding in the state, because prevention is better than cure.”

The members also called on the Federal Government to be supportive to Anambra state government in tackling erosion in the state, considering that these roads link to other states, urgent measures should be taken.
